It was some time in the 2003 year that this all started.
I was hanging out with my neighbor across my street and had my Pokémon collection with me; he collected Pokémon as well so we decided to battle each other. We also decided to place a bet, if I won I would get one of his cards, If he won he would get my holo Gyarados from the fossil deck (which was my most prized card).
I honestly don’t remember much about the actual game, all I remember was placing the bet then walking back home, with my binder in my hand, lacking that holo Gyarados.
Many years passed and then I believe in 2005 or so I grabbed my binder once more and went back to get my Gyarados (which luckily he still had let alone hadn’t move away with it). This time though I just traded cards with him instead of battle, because I honestly didn’t want to risk losing that card again.
So we were sitting out in his front lawn, binders open with that one card out. I told him to pick any three cards I had for it…yes three cards for one.
So after flipping some pages he spots my Foil Entei Promo card which I loved. He said that one and slightly hesitant I gave it to him…but wait there are two more cards to go.
Now the other two were a holo Celebi promo and a Rayquaza. At the time I didn’t know much about these particular Pokémon so I didn’t care too much.
So yes I traded THREE LEGENDS for ONE NORMAL type Pokémon…you can laugh or cry if you want.
Now I was so happy to get that one card back, but I will admit I missed my Entei card.
Then about a week later I decided to get another pack of Pokémon from the store and guess what…I got the Celebi and Entei card back! THE EXACT ONES!!! I cannot even begin to tell you how baffled I was about this. As for Rayquaza I honestly didn’t care about that one, I thought it was a regular Pokémon.
Then in 2010/2011 I got 2 Rayquazas!! One has holo and the other was shiny (you know the kind of card with the silver shiny border around it?) Sure neither were the one I traded a while ago, but these ones were better!
But the overall moral of this story is:
Don’t let kids aimlessly play with awesome Pokémon cards, cause each time I remember this story I always feel grateful for the luck I have had, but still wish that I would have never lost my Gyarados in the first place (cause then I would have 2 of those Celebi and Entei cards and three Rayquazas.)
