The man who chained him up told him he would work for the "Freak Show" for the remainder of his life for trespassing, He has been working for them for over seven years and has been working with the animals and preparing the "Freaks" for their show. He has been known to be flirting with one of their "Freaks" called "stretch" but his real name is Laurence Mcdaniel. Matthew and Laurence have been flirting with each other for five years now. They would sneak out into the forest and exchange their feelings about each other and they would kiss until they hear footsteps and run back to their living area.
