I just joined Ravelry. I'm so not happy about that. Of all the sites out there to have information on crochet patterns, the one with the most information and the one with the most in depth information requires a frickin' sign up form. It just seems so counter productive, especially with all the other crochet sites out that there that while they do require you to sign up, they at least let you view the damn forums.
Last time I tried to join ravelry because of the same desperateness I feel now when I'm trying to start a project, but don't understand the directions or can't find a good yarn substitute or something, it required all this bullshit information that not even facebook asked when I joined. Luckily this time, they didn't require the state and country I reside, real name, stores I go to, and s**t like that.
But good grief, what could need to be so private on a crochet and knit site of all places, that ********' requires a sign up just to see anything of use. It doesn't even help that because of this EVERYONE's on there, and so that's the place they all link to spreading this cycle of "this site's so awesome it's too awesome to be open to the public".
s**t, at least on facebook when you're not logged in you can still see people's profiles and what's said on them like a forum. I feel a bit disgusting that I joined a site like ravelry. Hopefully I won't have to use it often.
On another note, Caron Simply Soft Yarn makers, make your damn yarn a little thicker, or a little thinner. You're the only damn worsted weight yarn I've come across that I cannot use my favorite Red Heart Super Saver as a substitute. Heck, I can't use any other worsted weight yarn as a substitute. You're not doing any favors, there's so many patterns the Caron company busts out, but I'm not adding to my already unreasonable stash of yarn because you yarn makers decided "let's make sure this yarn has no substitutes". ******** that s**t. It may be a soft cuddly yarn, but a yarn I can find a substitute for is a BAD yarn! And it's SPLIT when being used BADLY too. HMPH. *turns up nose*
