To all that it may concern:
Happy New Year. But what does it mean to us? Why does it hold such significance compared to the last time we partied, watched a ball drop, and saw some fireworks light the night sky?
I understand far better than others, not as a condescending p***k, but out of genuine experience. The oncoming year gives rise to new opportunities and experiences, and a time to reflect on those past. I can honestly say this year helped me figure out a few things about myself. First and foremost being that despite loving college, I'm still terrible at this homework thing.
Next, I'd like to say that this year can be marked by my habits: a week of Pokemon Black to play through and beat it, and then the past eight and three-quarter months to capture nearly every Pokemon (only 12 left of the 649). There were the several months of Assassin's Creed, taking me from the brilliance of the Holy Land to the beauty of Renaissance era Italy and an exploration into world building.
Finally we have Skyrim for the past two months, despite my limited time to play due to a bitchy Xbox.
As far as video games go, this year was at least decent.
But what I found around the later part of July and early September was something I didn't know would now be taking up a large amount of my time: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Let's ignore the drama and your personal opinion on this, dear reader. Instead, let's focus on what I gained out of it: new friends, a bit of love for pastel ponies, and something that's actually gotten me writing again after almost a year of harsh writer's block.
Half a year of bizarre lurking and chats, new friends who are honestly really cool, a saccharine coated new folder of pictures on my desktop, and perhaps the most bewildering and awesome fandom I've ever had the pleasure of studying and taking part of. That and Fluttershy is best pony.
Rage comics, trolling, the Twilight movies (beginning to start) coming to a close, and the end of the Harry Potter movies. But the grandest thing this year wasn't any of that, nor was it something ridiculous like material things. No. My faith in humanity is restored a little bit. As this era comes to a close, so too will the start of a new one begin. We don't know what ventures lie beyond the door of tomorrow, but we can only pray that it will be as bright and open as our imaginations let it be. After all, us curious creatures will have our ways to make do with these opportunities.
So, fair traveler of the world, I bid you hello, goodbye, and thank you.
