"Of course you need my help. Everyone comes to me looking for help in some form... information, comfort... they don't think. They ask. And that is all they do. They never think that one of these days, I'm just going to say no." his words came unprovoked. He looked over his shoulder and in the eyes of his former classmates. They were the deepest shade of maroon and contained knowledge that was best left buried in the past. Not that he would've cared for the opinions of other people. This was Alphonse Miller; former Ravenclaw and currently the most well-informed man in the world. As was part of his status as the Shadow Broker.
The Shadow Broker was known around the world as the greatest Information Broker, capable of getting information of any kind. His influence was felt in every settlement across the globe and he was quite possibly the richest as well. Nobody could understand just how many people woud love to pay to get their grubby hands on some information. They had their motives and he was more than willing to indulge them for the right price. His suit was worth more galleons than most people made in five years. It was wasteful but he never really cared. It was his money and he could use it in whatever manner he wished.
Alphonse knew the reason that they risked coming here. To risk giving the enemy knowledge of his whereabouts. He was being hunted by the enemy himself because of his connections, connections that extended in to enemy territory and beyond. But that wasn't the only reason. He was also what the wizard community called a Halfblood, a half Muggle and half Pureblood. The enemy was foolish, however, and had no clue that he was the Shadow Broker. In essence, Alphonse Miller and the Shadow Broker were both being hunted but for very different reasons.
"I'm the Big Boss, the CEO, King if your feeling dramatic. But the point is, everyone comes to me looking for assistance. You should feel lucky that we were in the same House at one point or I would've asked for payment. And I don't come cheap."
He pulled back for a second and ruffled through his collection of manila folders, pulling from the middle of the stack. Basil's name was emblazoned on the front of the folder and was the most prominent thing other than the minor details listed below. It was obvious that their hideout had something to do with the Information Broker's best friend. He unceremoniously dropped it on his desk, causing several pictures to spill out of it. Most of them looked to be in a forest, surrounding ruins of some kind. The next thing he said only confirmed their suspicions.
"My contacts informed me of this place. Basil has placed interest in using the creatures here for his wands, and is known to stay at the ruins whenever he's in this area. As far as I know, the ruins aren't on any documents and nobody knows of them personally. If you need to get away, this' the place to be."
For a second, the Shadow Broker wasn't there. In his place was the old Alphonse Miller. The warm and friendly student that genuinely cared for his classmates. It had been so long since they had seen him. He was unfortunately twisted by outside influence, forcing him to grow distant and cold to maintain his underground empire. Alphonse rarely surfaced in these modern times. "Luckily, I made Portkeys for just such an occasion. Don't need you getting hurt on your way there. Here..." He reached inside of the manila and pulled out several rings, all of the same size and make.
"They are boring in appearance but they get the job done. All of them are Charmed to adjust and fit around your finger snugly. Now, you need to get out of here as soon as possible. I can't risk the enemy discovering my location. The information here is too valuable to let fall in their hands."
Alphonse gave them a soft, genuine smile as they disappeared. Then he sighed lightly and looked at some of the pictures that were still on the desk.
Sometimes... being the Shadow Broker royally sucked.
"Good luck."
