Lats night I had an interesting dream, and while I can still remember bits and pieces of it, I wanted to write it down and maybe make a story out of it, since it's already kinda a story in itself. so bare with me if it doesn't all make sense because it was based off a dream.
In an icey cold tundra, deep under the water is a large ship. The undersea vessel is more a military base/settlement. It's halls roam disheveled machines, mindlessly going about their patrols and various tasks. Most are of the same design, large boxy things on two oversizes legs, the only difference between them is the level of rust and sometimes color to distinguish between working groups. The ship itself is expansive, composed of levels upon levels of various areas of importance, including rooms to allow the ship to be self-sustaining, like areas for gardens, and rooms with trees, which provide fresh air. Despite this supposedly cheer vessel which should be filled with people all looking to live their lives and be happily protected from whatever horrors live above the thick ice sheet. There is a distinct lack of passengers on this vessel. Only the machines remain.
Three rogue characters are aboard the vessel. Somehow they have made it into the ship and are now faced with this eerie creaking tank of a ship. The leader of the group is a anthropomorphic German Shepard in his late 20's, handsome, with a serious but playful nature. He approaches a young feline girl, who looks very unsettled by this place. She looks to be in her teens, with a round face and blonde hair which drapes down her shoulders. The last of the group is me. I stand shorter then the male, but taller then the young female, and seem to be a bit more blukish then either, as I am a stout polar bear. The male begins a hasty explanation of what we are to do here.
"The core of this facility our objective, if there is to be hope for the future we must get that artifact." He looks excited, determined.
The cat pulls her ears back, frowning "This place is guarded by god-knowns how many mechs, how are we supposed to get through this place without being torn to shreds?"
I give a grunt, "That's easy, before we came here I hacked into their data-base and made sure to add us to the roster of residence on-board. So they'll think we're part of the crew."
"But no ones been on this ship in decades, wouldn't they realize that we couldn't possibly be crew." The feline is very uncomfortable, probably second-guessing coming at all.
I give a little chuckle, "They're machines they won't really anything unless we program them to. Don't worry about it. We'll be fine. This should be a cake-walk."
The dog springs forward ready to go, "So much to explore! No ones been here in ages, we shouldn't rush this one, look for supplies and the like if you can. We have a long journey ahead of us." He opens the first door out into a long hallway. It's completely empty and surprisingly sterile as the cold metal walls and doors looks like something out of a industrial designers handbook. We begin our descent into the ship, I open a map of the facility, it doesn't have all the room, mostly a crude hand-drawn layout of the floors and where we can find the core. The map guides us through the floors with ease, this ships design is fairly basic and easy to find it's way around, with the map anyway. We make a few stops to check out various rooms like the mess hall, kitchens and various personalized bedrooms. This ship must have been pretty plush, since it looks like each resident had their own room at least, probably to help make the place more bearable, since this was a ship that one was supposed to live on. We took a few things, nothing we couldn't cram in pockets or backpacks. Since we had to remember to travel light. I took most of the supplies into my larger pack, since I have the brute strength to handle it.
We where getting close, only 3 more floors and we where making out way to the top of the ship. We opened the door to the 3rd floor and a mech swiveled around, guns raised. This one was different from the others. Larger, much more heavily armed and more of a triangular head on two huge legs. A mechanical voice boomed out from it, "Intruders. Don't move, or I will fire."
I stood in the doorway, the feline behind me, and male already through the door. We where so close to the machine I could smell the dust and oil on it. The cat was frozen in place behind my large bear body. I whispers out the corner of my mouth at her. "It hasn't see you, can you slip under it?"
The cat places a paw on my back, they where shaking, "Yeah I think so."
"Good, When you're back there look for any wiring, it'll be in the back, maybe close to the underside, cut them, all of them." I stood still with the dog, he was looking seriously over at me.
"How do you know there are wires there? Will it work?" He was frowning now, the look didn't suit him.
"I'm guessing, but most of these models are the same, so if it's like the others then the wiring will be partly exposed, giving them increase movement, but allowing them to be easily disabled." It was a minor flaw of the design, but there was no other way to allow those legs to have full range of motion. I could feel the feline slithering along the ground past my clawed feet. She crouched under the mech and swung a clawed hand wildly into the small hole under the mechanical beast. It slumped forward, deactivated. I shoved it with a large pawed hand and it fell backwards with a loud CLUNK.
We kept walking down the hallway, not seeing anymore of these different military grade mechs as we went, but much more on-edge now. Walking softly, and quickly making our way to the next staircase. We made it to the 2nd floor and the layout of the ship changed dramatically. This must have been the bridge floor, it was filled with various computers and work stations. We stick close to the walls and began our sneaking ascent. Down a few halls and we reached the main bridge, a large open room. To our horror it had no less then 5 security mechs, all paroling in an erratic pattern. Frowning we turned to each other and began a hasty conversation. "Is there no other way around?" The Shepard looked impatient, this was not going as planned.
"No other way. The staircase is down a hall though the opposite side of that room." I grunted back in an angry tone. The cat's tail was twitching close to my face as we crouched down around the corner, I nearly went to snag that little tail in my massive jaws, but the dog distracted me.
"Then I guess we;ll just have to make a run for it." He looked excited again. Did he actually get pleasure out of this suicide mission.
"Are you insane! We'll die for sure. They'll shoot us!" The feline was freaked about the idea of just brazenly running through the room.
"I'm not exactly a small target like some of us, I'd be happier if we had a better plan." I growled back, smoothing the thick white fur along my belly.
"Well if you think of something I'd love to hear it, but really i see no other way. If we time it right we might be able to get through without them even being able to get a shot off." He was smiling now, sure that he'd be able to do it.
I shook my head, "Well I've got nothing, so I guess we have no choice." I would have considered hacking into the data-base again, but this place had no working computers for me to access. That's even assuming I'd know what to look for, this sentry was not something we had been warned about.
With that we agreed, and the dog watched carefully as the mechs patrolled trying to figure out the pattern and find out the best time to make our mad dash. Finally he turned to use and said, "Ready?"
"As I'll ever be." Said the cat, looking agitated.
The Sheard nodded and turned back, giving us a hand signal, 3, 2, 1. He leapt forward and began his dash.
He ran through the seemingly endless room, going straight for the door on the other side. The feline close to his tail. I was not nearly as swift as either of them, but on all fours I was about to keep a quickened pace. Five alarms all went off at once, "Intruders, intruders, intruders, intruders, intruders." The message was a jumbled mess and by the time the message was over we had made it half-way to the door. I could hear to gattling guns behind to fire up in the mech closest to me, and a surge of adrenaline pushed me forward. We where so close. The canine slammed into the door with his shoulder and the rusted hinges gave way. He was through the gun-fire began and I watched as the bullets pinged off the metal frame of the doorway, ricocheting and hitting the little cat. She fell forward, hit. I was right behind her and grabbed her small arm in my muzzle and rushed through the door. Once through we could hear the mechs moving to follow us. With no time to waste, I sling the felin over my mack with a powerful swing of my head and began pounding down the hallway on all fours. The dog took a sharp right towards the stairs and I followed hearing as the guns began to go off again behind me.
We raced up the stairs, me ears where pounding with adrenaline, I could barely hear as the canine barked to duck as we entered the final floor, the holding place of the core. I did as he said a slide forward on my belly as a rocket whizzed over my head and mangled the stairs behind us. This new place was so unlike any of the other floors. The floor was all lights, making and eerie glow on anything standing on them. Like the sentry mechs which now clanked it's way towards myself and the Shepard. I remained on all fours, shifting slightly to make sure my passenger didn't fall off. The whole place seemed like a giant maze. Walls in every direction, lighting only from under the floor. The halls only wide enough to fit a mech. The Shepard didn't waste time as the Sentry began to re-load itself with another rocket. He ran up and slide under it, grabbing for the wires I had explained about earlier. He ripped them out with a vicious smile. I raced forward and past the mech as it fell forward. We began to race down the twisting halls, finding dead ends, and more sentries as we went, eventually we stopped at a dead-end, panting as exhaustion began to take over the adrenaline.
"We have to think about this, we don't even know where we're going. And we don't have time to waste." I nodded towards the little cat who lay unconscious on my back. The Shepard grimaced angrily, he knew he had to think of something and fast. Looking around he looks up. The wall doesn't reach the ceiling, but it'll be a heck of a climb.
"Hey, come over here, If I can get up on top here I guide you through the maze and we can get that core. I just need some help up here." He is several feet shy of reaching the top of the wall. I gingerly place the small feline on the ground and stand against the wall, allowing the dog to climb up my back and stand on my shoulders. He can just reach and does a small hop to get up the wall. Securely on top of the wall he runs along to find the way to the center, explaining where i should go as he does so. I pick up the small feline in my arms and carry her limp body, blood is beginning to soak through her heavy winter coat she had worn for the mission. Looks like she's been shot somewhere on here side, probably not life threaten... if we can get out of here in time. The German Shepard is barking orders, allowing me to avoid the mechs and dead-ends all at once. Finally a light at the end of this creepy tunnel. I can see a pedestal with a large orb on it. The dog leaps gracefully down the wall and snags the orb, as I rush up to met him.
"Great, now we have it, how do we get out, we can't go the way we came." I grumble miserable. But the canine just smiles triumphantly at me.
"Oh don't you worry I have an escape plan." He reaches into his pack and pulls out several packages of explosive C4.
"You wait until now to use that!" I say exasperatedly. He laughs and begins rigging the explosives together in a small bunch with a timer. "So Genius, how are we supposed to knew where to put that, won't it destroy everything here. And cause this whole place to sink."
"That's the idea! And don't worry we're actually at the highest point on the ship right now, and if we climb this pedestal we can get it up on the ceiling there." He positions the explosives above out very heads. And I begin a hasty retreat behind on of the walls to get away from the explosion. The canine sets everything up and follows behind, "We have 30 seconds. Then you better get ready to swim."
I have enough time to growl out, "You're insane!" Before the hull explodes and icy cold water rushes through the hole created by the explosion. Everything is a blur for a moment as the ship rocks violently and shudders as it all begins to fall part and sink. The cod water quickly fills the maze room and I clutch the small cat to my chest tightly, take a deep breath before being completely engulfed. Once in the water, I swim frantically for the hole, with the canine following closely behind. We pup out above the massive ship and can see the ice above. Swimming towards it I begin to panic, how will we get through this thick sheet of ice?! I look from side ot side, and spot a penguin, drating quickly away from the sinking ship and towards the surface, I follow where he's headed, certainly he will have a hole to get in and out from. I can see that the canine is in trouble, I'm built for long exposure in frigid waters, but the other two...
I can see him fading, and reach out to grab his arm, holding the feline in my other hand, I drag both of them up to the small hole the penguin was using. I slam mu head and back into the hole, cracking it wide open and popping my head out for air, along with the others. I pull myself up out of the water and pull up the feline who's shivering from cold, and give the canine a paw to grab on to.
We're out in the open tundra now. The cold harsh wind whips across the flat ice and snow spirals swirls along the wind. I shake off quickly and pull the small cat in close to keep her warm, while she groggily moans in pain. I look over at the canine, "We need to find shelter, quick." He nods, his ears shaking from cold as well. He has the large orb clasped tightly in his paws and we begin to head towards a large glacial structure. It's a natural cave, large ice blue walls curve up in beautiful shapes and we walk down a ways until the wind is no longer biting at us. We pull out what we can from the packs and start a fire, using some materials I had brought in my large backpack. We set the cat out on a warm bedroll and I do my best to patch her up. But neither of us are trained doctors. We sit in silence for a while. I watch the fire flicker and pop while the canine warms himself. I feel fine in this environment, the cold is where I belong, but for the canine and cat, this must be hell. I look at the orb, half-wrapped in a bag sitting on the cave floor shinning. I notice a slight rim on it, perhaps there is something inside the orb. Truth be told I'm not sure what this core is, what it contains or why we had to retrieve it.
I look solemnly at the dog who is warming up now. "She needs a doctor, we'll have to take her back south as soon as possible. She won't last out here."
The canine grimaces. "We can't go back with the core. It is vital we keep t safe, here, far from anyone else's prying hands." He looks saddened at the prospect of never returning home.
"Why!? What's so special about this thing anyway!" I am practically yelling now, I don't want to see this little cat die, when she could very easily live.
"This world, it's broken... The core is the only thing that can heal it. But not now, not until after the great catastrophe."
"What are you talking about!?"
"There are plans to bring this world to it's knees, set everything aflame, destroy it all. This core is the only thing that will be able to bring any life back to this planet after that time. It must be kept secret and safe, but now we have it in our possession we don't' need to worry about the complete destruction of everything, as long as we keep it safe."
"So why didn't we just leave it in the ship!"
"The forces which plan the destruction of this planet also made that ship, and it is a place they would have known about. So we had to get it out of there. Now we have it, we will have control of the outcome of the new world."
"But what about her? She'll die if we stay here." I look away, I understand the important of this orb now, but I can't sit here and do nothing while the feline dies. "I could stay here, I'll be fine. You need to bring her back and get some doctors to look at her. But I can stay here, with the core."
The canine considers this."What will you do out here alone?'
"Hibernate."
THe canine almost laughs and nods, "Alright. Fair enough. I'll bring her back, you find a safe quick place and keep it secret and I'll try to find you when she's healthy."
Our plans decided I set out with my pack, and the core. I travels miles form the ships sink sight, ging further north, into harsher country then I'm used to, and found a cavern. Closing the entrance up with snow, and setting up a small tunnel for myself to get in and out of if I need to, I happily curled up in the corner of the cave, wrapped protectively around the core, if someone wanted it they're have to move me off of it first, good luck. With that I began my hibernation, falling quickly and quietly into the deep darkness of sleep.
And that's when I woke up IRL, yup weird dream I know.
