Chapter 8 There was a screech of demonic laughter echoing off the trees. The underbrush stirred all around. I tensed, my back to the other two as they drew out their blades, facing opposite directions. It got silent, as if the entire forest was holding it’s breath. Moments went by as the silence grew more threatening. There was a rustle in some trees very far away. We stood stone still, Tashinu’s shadow stretching forward, waiting for the ambush. Skye’s claws came out, tempting her to Turn. Silently I gripped her wrist, frowning at her. I didn’t want her to waste energy before it was needed. Using their True Form, a were uses a lot of energy, which doesn’t last long in a fight. It came out of the bushes in front of me. A hunched over little grey creature with beady black eyes. It was holding a light blue piece of fabric. It’s claws had marred it to shreds. I smelled her blood, making my fangs come through my gums, my lips curling in a growl. The creature set the fabric on the ground, backing up towards the underbrush. The blood didn’t even smell fresh which made me want to lunge at the pathetic creature. I crouched, slightly. Tashinu and Skye were watching me. The creature howled at the moon, making the trees come alive with the motion of other creatures. I didn’t wait to find out what they were. I lunged at the creature as it cowered into the bushes. I tore at it’s chest, punching and clawing at it. It screeched and screamed. I bit just below it’s neck to silence it, tearing flesh from the tiny creature. Blood sprayed everywhere. It slumped to the ground. Goblins were an annoying species. Soon, a large group of them surrounded us as I joined my companions. I counted about fifteen of the pathetic, snarling little creatures as they came close. I nodded to my companions as they both lunged forward, Tashinu was using an ancient technique of shadow possession, where you take complete control of another’s body, from their shadow. He chose a larger goblin, although it was still less than half his size. He use it’s claws to tear it’s neighboring goblins apart. I unsheathed my double edged sword from my back, making some of the creatures cower. I sliced at them in an arc, using the sword as an extension of my arm. They growled at me, cowering. I decided to make it fast, since they had no choice in Him having power over them. The sun was high over the trees by now, showing at high noon. We had to get moving, before the smell of blood attracted far worse creatures. I hurried them towards the far side of the forest, trying to get them as far away from those things, and home as possible. I saw something sparkling in the distance, soon I saw that it was a small river. I halted them just short of it. i wanted to be sure that it would be a safe place to stop. It’s empty, aside from the birds thet fly, high above. “I think we’ll be alright here, for the time being” I told them. “While we are looking for His castle, I will be teaching you things far beyond your years in training. I want you two to be at your best when we face him next. I fear that he won’t be so willing to take her, this time” I explained to them. “For now, you must rest. I will begin your teachings afterwards”. I let them both sleep for about six hours, myself being a full blooded vampire, I was able to train myself not to need as much sleep as the others. I had a rabbit killed and cooked for them. Once they were done, I started their training, starting with the basics. “Now, I’m going to teach you a style of fighting that is... Different than you are used to. For this, you will not need a weapon. You will rely on your instincts, the natural hunt for blood that all of us underworlders have. Once you have mastared control over your body in it’s primal state, the fun will begin. And by that, the training will get very hard” I grinned, watching their utter surprise.
