The Sea, a force beyond reckoning. If any should anger the powers that control it, may mercy and grace protect them from its vengeance. None passed by the Sea and so mankind as well as those of the supernatural order were parted by the vast waters and ever-changing tides. Progress was halted and the culture of each race starting to dim.
The Land, foundation of life. Those who lived off of it respected the grace it held, those who didn’t well it found a way to earn respect from them. All living things touch the Land in some way, though it was separated by its sibling the Sea. Lives were lived and spent upon it, so life went on…dulling as it did so.
The Sky, a portal for dreamers. The creatures of the Sky were frightened to cross the stormy Sea, so they too started to dim as the Sea grew more violent and untamed. It is a means for dreamers to create stories that were not true of lands beyond that of the vast water. Many who braved the Sea were led by the stories, so the dreamers were ignored and culture died again.
Before balance was bestowed upon these three great majesties, the Moon and the Sun overlooked them. It was said that a terrifying dragon was the soul of the Sun while a beautiful dragon was the soul of the Moon. The two Great Dragons of the Balance, as they were later to be known, grew worried and upset over the issues of life upon the world they so cherished. So, the two joined on a Solar Eclipse and the Great Dragon of the Sky was born.
The Great Dragon of the Sky, took to the clouds. They say that if one ever sees a gathering of clouds shaped like a slumbering dragon then that is the resting place of the Great Dragon of the Sky. He brought calmness to the skies that covered both Land and Sea, so creatures of the Sky traveled and prospered.
That was not enough, on yet another Solar Eclipse the two Great Dragons of the Balance joined. Thus the Great Dragon of the Land was born.
The Great Dragon of the Land, took to the one island that joined all other lands in the coldest region of the world. If one were to brave the journey they would surely see the mountain of this Great Dragon. Never climb that mountain for it is the Great Dragon of the Land himself, slumbering like his elder brother; the Great Dragon of the Sky.
The Sun Dragon was pleased, but the Moon Dragon still worried. They had two sons to protect the balance of the Land and the Sky yes…but what about the Sea. So, on a Lunar Eclipse the two Great Dragons of the Balance joined for the last time bringing into existence; the Great Dragon of the Sea.
The Great Dragon of the Sea, took to where the Sea was most chaotic. Sleeping inside of a pool on an unmapped island in the center of the waters is the Great Dragon of the Sea. If one were to peer into the water the dragon could be seen, but beware there are other things that reside in the water that would devour any who wish ill to the dragon.
It is said that once a greedy King tried to capture the Great Dragon of the Land, the King and his naval fleet took to the Sea. His evil woke the Great Dragon of the Sea who unleashed the chaos. You see as the Dragons slept balance was kept, but once they awoke they would unleash the building chaos and never stop until they felt it was time. Once the chaos had stranded the King and a few of his warriors on the Island of the Great One, it spread to the peaceful villages that lived along the coast of the Land. The Great Dragon of the Sea was deaf to the cries of the souls lost to the chaos, until one day.
The Child was 7 when her father set out to find the Dragon’s Pool and plead with the Great One to go back to sleep. The man was not a fisher, but a bard that spent his days singing songs of hope and love to his four daughters and one son. When the chaos surged he parted from his beloved family, hopeful that he could find the Pool and somehow lull the dragon to sleep. He never came home, and so seven years of chaos passed. The children were on they’re own as the chaos stole their mother from them one night. The eldest daughter was 19 years, the second was a set of twins at 17 years, the Child was 14 and the only son was 13. The Child set out in a boat fit for two, her brother joined her as he was a musician and brought with him his flute and lyre. Their elder sisters saw them off, knowing that the chaos wouldn’t touch the two pure hearts that set out. The two would never know what happened to their sisters for the chaos swallowed the three, it is said that where the Child and the only son set off from you can see a stone with two trees wrapped around it. Those are their sisters, never failing in seeing off their younger siblings they loved so much.
It took the two three days and four nights to find the Dragon’s Pool, once they did they wandered inside where a creature of terrible fear awaited them. The Guardian of the Great Dragon is said to be a serpent with the upper body of a man, who has five mouths and a hundred claws. The Guardian drew back at the purity inside the children for it was an incarnation of chaos, so the children passed into the cavern where the pool resided. The Great Dragon was sitting on a smooth spiral rock, it was beautiful. The Dragon listened to the children and felt sorrow. At the sight of its tears the two children decided to play it a song that their father taught them. As the children played the Dragon felt peace calm the chaos and soon slipped back into the Pool to sleep. As the children left it is said that the Moon Dragon bestowed upon The Child’s blood the mark of the Great Dragons so that should any of the Moon’s sons wake, a female of her bloodline who bore the mark of the Great Dragon that had awoken would be able to put them back into their slumber. It is also said that the Sun Dragon bestowed upon the only son the mark of the Void Dragons, terrible Dragons of the purest shadow that existed only to induce chaos and discord.
The Sun Dragon had ensnared the three rulers of the Void Dragons and placed them as a last resort to protect his sons. Should the barer of the Mark of the Great Dragons be threatened, a bearer of the Void Mark would protect them. Should the Barer fail, the Void Dragon of the Mark would awake to ambush any who dared approach the slumbering Dragon they watched over.
And so, time passed…
