I know not all Christians are psychos. Quite a few are actually decent human beings.
I'm not Christian. I do not believe in Christ. I will not try and turn you away from Christ. Let's get that straight. I feel that religion is something that one should come to in their own heart and take the time to nurture and healthfully question it.
To me, it's really difficult to grasp the idea that ONE being; supernatural, though he is, is in control of EVERYthing. That just doesn't sound right. I like the idea that the ancient Greeks had. There were 12 main gods and goddesses. THAT is something I can wrap my head around. Each one controlled a certain area of life. They all answered to Zeus, but one or two areas were under their own power. In the ancient lifestyle, women were nothing. In Greek religion, females held some serious ******** power. AND were highly respected. I have no idea if that carried over into the life of Greek women or not, but I think that's pretty damn cool. I also like that the gods have flaws. They're not perfect; hell, they don't even try to be. Everyone knows the stories of Zeus and his continuous infidelity.
Agnostic, to me, means that I believe there are beings in control, but I really have no idea what they are or do or require from me. I am also really uncomfortable with the fact that all the religions have male deities. All females are submissive and/or some type of slave to the male. How is this not disturbing in today's society?? I don't understand. I mean, these religions are old as ******** man. They were created when nature was wild and beyond control. And more then likely when people were just figuring out the mechanics of swimming. People probably grew up to be like.....20 and that was it. They died. There was no medicine for common colds or any of that. I mean, just use your ******** brain man. No one can heal you from being sick. and just by a single touch? Are you serious? D O E S N O T C O M P U T E . I mean, a man with a well trimmed beard was probably as well known as Windex. That's why they dreamed up a person that could. You have to remember that this was a in a time way before witches were burned at the stake. neutral They weren't very smart. People can have an issue with me if they want. My opinion: All religions are the same. They all have rules to follow and require worship. The rules are there to keep us from creating chaos. Without these rules, some people would just go out and murder for the hell of it. These rules are important. It's just like when the whole class stays after because one kid blew a spitball.
Human nature dictates that we humans need a leader. Human nature likes to do good and be rewarded for doing good. Human nature also dictates that when humans do wrongly, they should be punished and feel guilt and remorse. That is religion at it's core. It's just human nature...being human nature. I mean, have you heard the Indian folktale about the raven and the sun?? They're making stories to tell how things came to be. And that's it. No one questions it. Because it explains the unknown. We, humans, like to put heroes in our stories. And something to conquer. Without a thing to conquer, there would be no hero and no story. Without stories, do you have any idea what we would be?? Think about it. Write down every single story you've ever heard or known about. Fictional or not, stories are meant to share universal truths, concepts or ideas--be it generally accepted or not. Do you have any idea WHY people started writing their thoughts...on any subject? why TV was invented? movies are made? why cavemen wrote on walls??? Stories are our bloodline. It's something we all share.
Do you really think we would carry on the religions we do now if they didn't have a good story??? THEY WOULD NOT BE HERE. -calm- I believe religions are nothing more then well planned deathbed stories to put our minds at ease before we sink into death, just as we do in sleep; to explain the unknown. The reason people grow up with the idea of an afterlife is because you can die at any time. The afterlife is nothing more then a way to explain what happens when we die. Heaven is where good people go and Hell is for bad people--do you see why I say it's human nature to believe this thing?? I believe life is about learning and experiences. Some are good, some are bad. That's just how it goes.
