"It's no real great story on how I escaped," mom said once we had settled down on large fluffy couches. "When Acheron [+1] was destroyed I thought I had been the only survivor as well. As I was escaping, the Shiara temple [+2] exploded and a piece of sharapenel caught me in my shoulder--I had only enough strength to stagger to a life pod."
"We found her where your ship is," the Isuat, mom said her name was Neiren, said. Her voice sounded like several tiny silver bells ringing at once in harmony. "We did what we could but a curse had been lain upon her that we cannot cure."
"Curse?" I asked. "What kind of curse?"
"We do not know," Neiren replied sadly. "It eats her from within, making her as fragile as glass."
"And I have little time left," mom said. "I have consulted with many of the brightest Bronze dragons and not one can help me."
Looking at Ikkit, I said, "Get to the lab and see what you can do. NOW!" Looking at the other guardians, I ordered, "Help Ikkit in any way you can. There's no time for foolishness!"
Bowing, my guardians took off for the Isuat lab.
"Dragon," my mom said. "Don't--"
"We're here and we're going to do what we can do to help," I interrupted. "Ikkit twenty times smarter than any Bronze dragon I've ever met. Combine her brains with that of my other guardians and we're sure to find you a cure."
"But my time is up," mom said, smiling gently.
"No," I said. "I will not deprive Shalimar of getting to know you!"
Carefully and shyly, Shalimar climbed onto the lap of my mom and said, "Gamma? Don't go."

[+2] The Shiara temple was where the history of the blue dragons was stored.
