-Inkii nearly jumped for joy at the sight of her Mother and younger brother Duke, but didn’t due to the sad expression upon their Mother’s face. Inkii watched as their Mother pulled a chair up next to the bedside walking right threw her as if she wasn’t there. Duke sat down in the chair on the opposite side of the bed. Sighing Inkii leaned up against the wall. The crude chef knife vanished and the dark atmosphere seemed to dissipate as she listened to their Mother talk.
-“I brought Duke with me today Inkii, and he brought you something.” Their Mother said in a saddened tone. “Its okay Duke you can give it to her, the doctor said it would be okay.” Their Mother urged.
-Duke got up from his chair and leaned over Inkii for a moment. Then stepped back to readjust a chain and copper pendent he’d placed around her neck.
-“It’s a healing charm, Inkii, you should get better faster now.” Their Mother said with a large smile of approval. “It’s your brother’s first magical pendent. So we know he has poured his soul onto it to help.” Their Mother took Inkii’s hands in hers.
-‘Among other things.’ Inkii said able to feel the chain and pendant around her own neck. ‘Interesting.’ She thought lifting the pendant up to see the archaic symbols for healing both the body and soul. ‘He did pour a bit of himself into this.’ She realized feeling him in pendant.
-“Oh Inkii I wish I knew what happened in your sisters room that day.” Their Mother said pushing aside her bangs.
-“No one knows except Inkii and sissy Mom,” said Duke as he walked over to the window. “And sissy is missing.”
-‘Missing!’ Inkii thought alarmed. 'Sally can't be missing.'
-“I know Duke, but if only I’d known there was something wrong.” Their Mother moaned patting Inkii’s hand. “Inkii just needs to wake up and tell us who or what she saw, then when can find your sister.”
-Duke appeared to have taken notice of the hand print Inkii had left on the window. “I know Mom, I know.” He said slowly raising his hand to touch it. A couple of centimeters away, he stopped, and pulled his hand away.
-Inkii watched as her brother stuck his hand in his pocket and pulled out one of his favorite dice and placed on the windowsill. He then turned and looked to where Inkii leaned against the wall and winked. She watched as her brother returned to the seat he’d taken when he came in with shock. ‘He just winked at me, no he couldn’t have. Could he?’ she thought trying to grasp what had just happened. Inkii relaxed and watched and waited, but her brother gave no further hints as to realizing that she was there. So with a sigh she stayed leaning against the wall watching and listening to their Mother and brother tell her about their days, apparent that she’d been out for a couple of days now. A couple of months to be exact. A comma according to the doctor, apparently she’d hit her head pretty hard when she’d been knocked out of the way, their Mother explained when Duke asked what was really wrong with his older sister. He was the man of the house now that Dad was gone and one could tell it bothered him as well that he didn’t know what had been going on. Inkii was pleased to hear the determination in Duke’s voice. In a way it was sort of soothing to her. -After two hours of visiting their Mother and Duke left, leaving Inkii to puzzle over what to do next. Her little sister had been kidnapped by her Fathers family she was sure of it, but was unsure of where to find them now. They had just seemed to up and disappear after her parents divorce. Sighing she sat down upon the windowsill and picked up the dice Duke had left behind. The diamond shaped dice had the numbers zero to nine upon it giving it and even ten sides, it was a deep green in color, and the numbers embossed in gold. Coming to an idea she tossed the dice into the air, caught it, and placed it into her pants pocket as turtleneck became a light blue t-shirt and one of her favorite pull over jackets. She made her way out of the room and to the elevator. She was now on a mission and was determined not to fail.
