Hours slurred into each other without a moment to separate the monotony. Every hour he heard voices calling out to each other, sounds of feet scraping across the dirt floors and saw the same faces pass by. The way the sounds grated in his ears- every sound echoing the words of the conversation. Diiiisss owned. Alone. Disss-The sounds continued. Every clang, every squeak resulting in weight on the mattress ; everything pointed back to the conversation. The drunkenness in his father’s voice was overwhelming but that did not take back his words. He was alone, distant from his friends and disowned by his family. All he had was his dad and now, now even that had been taken away. His father, the man that had been so close to him, so positive and supportive of Demetri- had cut him out of his life. Gone. He was no more than a parasite in the eyes of his father, a scourge against their name. The real mar against the family name had been his mother and it was this wound that had carried into the previous conversation. He had known. He had known that something had changed when his mother died. Now all he had was the incessant noises and the calls from the men around him.
Morning came to find him restless, sleepless and pacing around the small cell. He had refused to lay down on the bed and did not feel like staying still. Too many thoughts loomed and swirled in his mind. What was going to happen? What was the verdict going to be? Would his dad still kick him out of the house? A guard passed by his cell and ushered him up . Now he would tell them what had happened. It was the longest three hours of his life. He got yelled at. He got accused. He received every trick in the book to tear apart his story-but it stayed. Demetri was not a lier. Finally, they returned telling him that he was free to go as it had been an accident. The only fine he’d pay was the hit and run because he had technically left. He nodded as they left him to think on how he would get that in.
It was a good amount of money. An amount that he didn’t have. He was still thinking on this matter when another guard came in. “ You’re guardian paid for the bail. You’re free to go.” Guardian? Free to go? Demetri remained confused until he stepped into the waiting area and saw him.
He stood there with dark blue eyes and a welcoming smile. “ Demetri, I’ve taken Mace already and you’re stuff is already at the house.”
He nodded as though he had expected this and didn't say anything until they got to the car.

" Well Demetri...I know I'm not exactly the person you wanted to see at this moment but I didn't think that you'd want to stay there. In case you don't remember..I'm Jaemal Guntram- Tevye's father." He said with a smile before starting up the car. The ride home was silent as Demetri blinked and tried to take in this new information.

...My mother... What was it his dad had said? My mother...slept with..Tevye's father?! That was a bit much to take in. As soon as they reached the house Jaemal turned to him.

" Look..Demetri..Tevye doesn't know about this situation right now..I'd prefer if he doesn't learn about it at school. Speaking of, you should shower and get dressed. I'll drop you off ." With that Demetri was left to get ready.

He took a quick shower and threw on some clothes- Tevye's clothes. For one, he had no idea where his clothes were as Jaemal didn't take them out of the bags they were in. Demetri threw on one of his own jackets to cover the fact that he was wearing a nike shirt. A shirt he'd never would've worn ...He grabbed his backpack and was dropped off at the school.

It was lunchtime when he arrived so luckily people were still heading to eat lunch or get in their cars. It didn't look so suspicious but it was awkward. At least he didn't need Sawyer to bring him his books. Demetri entered the school once again and headed to the cafeteria. He was starving.
