Violet Resonance

Mm excerpt from my story.
I'm putting this here for the sake of Confused's writing tournament as an example of my writing. But anyways, this is a snippet..I guess, from a story I was working on a while back but forgot about. It's called Strenuous Love, because the main character this part is talking about falls in love with her sister's boyfriend. Sort of thing. It's fantasy stuff, so if you don't like that kind of stuff...sucks for you.

Lemme just give you a summary... Laria's older sister is highly talented with sulei, which is magic. Not to mention gorgeous, has excellent grades, etc etc. Laria has always lived in her shadow and longs to get out. Two years prior to this she had an accident in which she nearly drowned, but was thrown from the water by the Goddess Fluere and has had a certain affinity with water since then. She has two left feet, and no magical talent whatsoever. Because of her sister, she has never before tried hard to beat her. But because of her new talent with water she tries, and finds it comes naturally to her when she does.

The stream fed a deep pool of water. The surface was as smooth as glass and just as clear. Laria looked around then quickly stripped herself of her clothes and dove into the water with nary a splash. She swam beneath the flawless surface of the water as long as she could hold her breath. She let the pool’s minuscule currents flutter across her body and tug her off into a different world. As she felt her self lapse in and out of unconsciousness, she felt it coming; that alien rush of sulei that she had been waiting for. It surged through her body like a lightning bolt and she rushed for the surface. Crystalline droplets of water flew through the air as she broke the surface, water flying. As each droplet was about to shatter, they stopped, suspended in the air. Laria was posed precariously upon the ball of her left foot while her right was stuck out behind her like a scorpion’s tail. Her foot swept downward and the drops fell, shattering like glass. It was then the music began. Laria felt it pulse through her body, and as her hands and legs swept in graceful arcs, water followed them. The rush of water and the fierce grace of her dance lured her like a siren song. She could not stop; she did not want to stop. Then, tiredness prodded her mind. It grasped every bone in her body and pulled her down like great leaden weights. She stumbled. The song was cut off, and the water fell back with a resounding splash. She stared at the water for awhile, breathing heavily as water dripped from her long black locks. She looked up, her odd violet-blue eyes glittering with excitement. She had to do it again. If I can remember what that feels like. Remember water… She stood shakily and dove back into the water, and it did not take her long to feel the rush of sulei. She let it take her, she let in engulf her. Her body flew to the surface, propelled by the rushing waves of sulei that emanated from her body. She was overjoyed. Her moves flowed, snapped out at the right moment it the music, and carried her into a dangerous trance. Her body could not withstand the rush of power, it was not strong enough to hold on. It was losing its shape. Her skin rippled as if it was water and slowly became transparent. Her hair twisted and shimmered green like seaweed, and her nails and eyes shimmered like light off of the ocean. She was becoming water.
