Midnight has barely struck as I creep upstairs and out the door to greet the world. Standing in the half-light as the wind rushes around-displaced air as dreams appear in and out of reality-I ponder. In this not-night, not-day, this inbetween time, I allow my thoughts to wander as they will. Foriegn ideas and strange bits of altered dreams flow through my mind as I release myself into the midnight world, the world where all minds touch and any thought is the reality. A passing dream flickers-it's dreamer awakens to lay in the darkness of his own room, still clinging to the fading images. His presence in the inbetween world also fades as he moves about, shaking the sleep and the openness from his mind. He was an early riser, and there are still several hours until the other sleepers greedily claim their dreams for themselves. I smile as I feel each mind touch mind in unconscious greeting, sharing their joys, wishes, fears in total trust and total acceptance. Once in awhile a conscious mind will brush through my thoughts and we might converse a while, yet the inbetween time is more for feeling and for thinking, not for the noisy, fast-paced use of words. As the stream of minds flows through me, I watch the stars dance their ancient dances of light and pattern. I ponder the difference of reality and fiction, I hear the faint music of the wind playing in the trees. Sleepers begin to close in upon themselves and the flow of minds becomes lighter, softer. By morning, it will feel as no more than the faintest touch of a dream hair, but the memory of the time when reality is blurred will drift on through the day......until the sleepers return again to the realm where dreams rule, and all are many as one.
