The Beauty of Horerczy

Every so often, a butterfly makes its way out of the icy depths of the water, to flutter up and stretch its wings. As it flies a trail of vibrant greens and blues and pinks follow closely behind, vanishing seconds after appearing as if it had never been there. The butterfly hovers. It remains there, unmoving in the air, searching its surrounding. Go my darling, a voice calls from the water. The butterfly flutters down to the surface. The icy waters are vibrating, but nothing is seen, nothing that could cause such a disturbance in the waters. With a sudden jerk, if flutters away quickly. Soon, the butterfly is going through the dense woods that surround the small lake, dodging tree after tree, at an unusually quick speed even for a butterfly. Off in the distance is a town. Its buildings are lit up- blinding the butterfly, almost- and music is radiating from it. People are laughing and dancing, singing loudly and off tune to German music. In a time of merriment, they forget their troubles, and display- to the tourists- how they truly behave. The butterfly takes off again, after having been stunned moments before into stopping. Its mind is clear. The butterfly understands what it has been told to do and how he must accomplish it. It was a miracle- if you could call it that- that he’d been the one to get chosen. Oh, how miraculous the butterfly believed it to be. Such a special job given to him.

The butterfly fluttered through the crowds, cautiously avoiding the crowds of drunken men, and searching. Searching for the right person to take. This was the hard part of the job. Remember what I told you, the same voice from before whispered; only the butterfly could hear him. Changing its speed, the butterfly slowly fluttered down to the table outside a coffee shop. A lady sat reading her magazine. She was a young girl, maybe around twenty- a tourist. She had long blond hair and sparkling blue eyes. A beautiful girl. And she was alone. This was the girl the butterfly had chosen.

The butterfly fluttered up once again and landed on the tip of her magazine. The girl glanced up. Curiosity was evident on her face and soon a smile formed. “What a beautiful butterfly,” she spoke. A clear German accent, and yet she seemed so calm. Most Germans had learned to fear the butterfly. It made it difficult for his master, but not impossible. The butterfly flapped his wings. Sparkling colors flew off of him and- in a pixie dust texture- swirled around the girl. Her eyes sparkled again and the butterfly took off into the air.

“Wait,” the girl called after it. Her belongings forgotten, she made her way away from the table to follow the mesmerizing bug she’d encountered. All sense of reasoning escaped her. Something she would have questioned before became irrelevant. The only thing on her mind was to catching up to the butterfly, she wasn’t even sure what she would do once- if- she did.

The butterfly fluttered back toward the lake, in the path that he’d come by. He could see the forest in his view, and the sound of the music was fading more and more. Still, he could hear the footsteps of the girl as she ran after him. If it could- which it couldn’t- the butterfly would have smiled. He was doing his job perfectly. All that he needed was a little more time and he would finish. At the sound of her footsteps getting closer, he sped up. In no time the he was flying through the trees in the forest. “Wait, don’t fly so fast!” He heard her voice call, followed by a scream. The butterfly stopped and looked behind. The girl had tripped. In all her excitement to see the butterfly, she had failed to notice the trunk that been sticking out. Did she break her leg? He hoped not. Catching a glimpse of the butterfly she pushed herself up and, though her ankle was sprained, started running toward it again. He had definitely gotten this one.

It was only a few minutes before they had gotten out of the forest and stood in front of the lake. The butterfly flew to the edge of the lake; the girl followed. She stood at the very edge, as far as she could go, and reached out for the butterfly. It fluttered down and landed on her hand. She brought her hand inward and smiled at the bug. It flapped its wings twice before hovering in the air, in front of her face. “What a beauty,” she whispered, trance-like. The butterfly stopped flapping its wings, but remained in the air. “How…” she questioned, regaining some of her thought process. Before she had time to really react, she felt herself loosing air. Her tiny hands reached at her throat. It became harder and harder for her to breathe. Her skin turned pale and her eyes grew larger. Within seconds, she dropped to the floor. The butterfly fluttered in the air where it hovered happily, before fluttering to the surface of the lake.

The girl watched, silently. She was still a live. The butterfly- no longer something mesmerizing to her- had left her with a few last breaths. Out of the dark deep waters, a figure emerged. The girl struggled to see who it was. Her last breaths had been taken and her vision began getting cloudy. She could vaguely see the outline of a person- or, at least that’s what it seemed like- and he reached out to the butterfly.

“Good job, my little darling.” His voice was rough and screeching, like nails scrapping against a chalkboard. “You’ve done well.” And before her eyes closed forever, she watched the butterfly fly into the man’s mouth. He looked over at the girl once then disappeared into the deep waters.

Her eyes closed and her body fell completely limp. Such a beautiful creature, the butterfly had been, yet it had done such a horrible dead.

My two choice things were mythical creature and underwater. Um, I'll just give you a little information on what a Horerczy is. It is a Germon demon. The demon releases butterflies from it's mouth. The butterflies are actually breath-sucking vampires. I thought it was pretty cool, I hope it fits!
