Chapter Nine
Offensive training was a little bit more difficult than mind protection, but it wasn't too hard. Alyss got down the basics after the first two days. She was learning how to search another's mind and how to project thoughts into other's heads. She was soon a master of both defensive and offensive telepathy. Once again, Cormac and Ailill found that it was extraordinary that she could learn at such a fast pace. Even Juri was surprised. As Alyss progressed in her skills she gained more and more self-esteem. After a month of lessons she was no longer clumsy, she no longer stuttered, and she held her head up high with confidence. She finished all of her lessons in less than six months which was apparently amazing. The entire clan held a mini-graduation for her. After finishing her telepathy studies she was free to learn about anything else she wanted. Having the freedom of the choice, she decided to learn how to sow. “You want to learn how to sow?” Cormac asked. “Of all the things you could learn, you pick sowing?” “Yes. I'd like to learn how to make my own clothes.” she answered. “Well . . . there is one that I know of that has that kind of talent. I don't know if he'll want to teach you though. He's very picky about which students he takes.” “I'm up for at least trying. What is his name and where does he reside?” Alyss was a tad bit surprised by the fact that her sowing teacher was going to be a man but she wasn't really alarmed. Men were usually very crafty. “His name is Sam Hain, and he resides in a human village.” “Why does he live with humans?: Alyss asked. “Because he is a human.”
Chapter Ten
“Huh? You want me to learn how to sow, you know like with needles, from a human? Are you crazy?” Alyss blared. “It's quite possible that I am. But, I don't see how your yelling at me. Your the one that wanted to learn in the first-place.” Cormac had two good points. He most definitely could be crazy, and she was the one that wanted to learn. “I suppose I'll have to at least try. . . “ she said. “What is the name of the village?” Cormac looked as if he was thinking. He kept the face on for minutes. Eventually his emotion changed back to serene. “I believe . . . that the village is called . . . Damn, I can't seem to remember. I'm deeply sorry. It's been so long since I've had to recall the name of that town. It's not too far from you old village. Maybe if you could state the names of the ones you know of, I might be able to pick it out.” Unfortunately, Alyss didn't know very many names of any towns. She named the few she knew but none of them seemed to jog Cormac's memory. Alyss knew exactly what that meant: she would have to figure out where Sam was herself. That definitely wasn't going to be easy. People that didn't mind sharing information without a hassle usually didn't know very much. She would have to search hard and long for Sam Hain, but, being a vampyre, she had all the time in the world. Cormac apologized once more before leaving her room. Once Cormac was one for a while, Ailill came into her room. “So, how'd things go?” he asked. “Not very well . . . You wouldn't happen to know where Sam Hain resides would you?” “Sorry.” “Yeah, didn't think so. Well, I'm sure someone other than Sam Hain knows where he lives.” Ailill came and sat next to her on her bed. He surprised her with a light kiss on the lips. She smiled. “I know you'll find out somehow. Your a very determined soul.” he said. She kept her smile and kissed him on the cheek. “Thanks.” Alyss decided to sleep on her decision. She was never one to just give up and walk away, she was, like Aillil had said, a determined soul. But, this could take a lot of work. Was Alyss up to this kind of a quest? Well, this time you decide. Should Alyss try to locate this master of the needle? Or should she choose a different talent to accomplish, choosing to proceed in a safer, more familiar area?
