Rise of Delusion RP Ficlet

"That's not the correct way to clean it," Sephiroth remarked almost idly, his tone completely uncaring even as Squall scowled down at the shining surface of his gunblade, then back up at his superior officer.

"It's how I've always done it."

Sephiroth's eyebrow twitched higher for a moment. "It's wrong."

Squall frowned, but more out of confusion than irritation. "Well, how am I supposed to do it then?"

"You start with the chamber," Sephiroth replied, and finished off polishing his own weapon's blade, quietly satisfied with the gleam of the light on the metal. "And then you make sure the path for the bullet is clear."

"Yes, I've done that," Squall said, leaning down to look down the narrow tube. It had been blocked by dried blood before he started; their last fight had been a little more vicious than usual, but he supposed it was to be expected. He hadn't quite figured out to clear the black gunge that resisted the usual metal soap and polish. It hadn't looked like that when he'd started, but he supposed the ash and the blood had mixed into something more gelatinous, and now... Squall's brow furrowed as he pushed a finger as far as it could go down the barrel, and then pulled it out. His finger was definitely less black than it had been before.

"Try this," Sephiroth said, and tossed him a bottle of his own polish, which Squall caught, and then fumbled a little. "That might work better. You can use it if it does, but buy me and yourself new bottles next time we stop."

"Sir. Yes sir," Squall murmured, and the corner of his moouth tilted up in a sort of smile before he repressed the expression again, bending over his gunblade again. He used a new corner of the cloth with the new polish, and was content with the way it seemed to scrub the gunge off. It certainly required more elbow grease, but that was all right. Squall was willing to work for his gunblade, tracing a finger over the design on the metal near the hilt, and then he looked up quickly, almost snapping to attention.

"When you're finished, meet me on the bridge," Sephiroth told him, his green eyes glowing.

He didn't say anything more, but Squall watched him walk away, eyes lingering on the sweep of his hair, and the way his body moved under that jacket, before dropping his eyes back to his gunblade. His finger was still lightly caressing the desin on his blade, but the tiny smile on his face wasn't for the gunblade at all.

UnNamed RP Ficlet

Squall frowned at his brother, the expression as close to a pout as he would let himself go. He was a big boy now, and big boys din't pout- but Sephiroth was being so unfair. "But it's mine. You gave it to me."

"And, well, now I'm taking it back," Sephiroth replied, strapping the sword into its place. "It's only for a little while, Squall. I can't find mine, and we need one for tis trip."

Squall knew very well that Sephiroth couldn't find his own; it was hidden in his very best hiding place. But Sephiroth was still going on this trip, it was still going to be without him, and now he was taking Squall's sword too. Squall clearly hadn't thought this plan out properly. "You could just stay. Then you wouldn't need a sword," he offered, and scowled when Sephiroth smirked, then laughed.

"That's not going to work, Squall. Are you going to say goodbye, or keep sulking?"

"Sulking," Squall muttered, but his feet sidled closer in spite of himself, and he threw his arms around Sephiroth as soon as he was close enough. He only came up to his brother's chest, but it put him at just the right heart to hear the older boy's heart under his ear. Sephiroth hugged him back, squeezing Squall until maybe he didn't need to breath, before pushing him back.

"So be good, all right? I'll be home in a week."

"Bring me something," Squall muttered, brow furrowing again. What he meant was I'll miss you.

"Brat," Sephiroth replied easily, and smiled. What he meant was Brat.

Squall heard I love you though, and the words put a sunny smile on his face.

Sephiroth smirked, and leaned down, mostly to meet Squall's eyes. "Remember to get my katana out of the attic by the time I get home, Squall. Or I'm not giving you back yours however much you sulk."

What he meant was This reminds me of you, and I'm keeping it for a while.

What Squall heard was just plain and simple, but it still made him smile as he plled a cheeky face at Sephiroth and ran back inside so that he wouldn't have to watch his older brother walk away from him.

Brat.
