*sighs* I love reading...maybe a little too much. Usually I pick up a book that people have been raving about, or the cover looks interesting. (Yes, I do judge by cover.) Sometimes, I'll look up books with certain themes ( say...dark romance with vampires) and I'll search through book summaries until an interesting plot comes up. Award winning books are usually enjoyable. The same goes for anime too, but I just about like every anime I've watched. Good thing I haven't started on Korean dramas, or I would get no sleep between anime marathons, death reading sessions, and school work cramming. sweatdrop Unfortunatly, my memory is so bad, that I forget what the book was about soon after I read it. So it doesn't even matter if I read a lot, I don't remember doing so anyways.
So anyways...good books that I've read recently...
Captain Hook It was sitting on the new books shelf in the media center. Cover was really appealing ^^. It recounts the early days of the infamous pirate captain and the beginning to his later career. Hook similar to Artemis Fowl, both pale, not liked very much, and smart, in a scary way. They're both bad guys with good hearts too. The dude falls in love with a Sultan's daughter XD. Couldn't stop laughing when I got to that part. It's an ok book, a bit kiddish, but enjoyable if you've got time to kill. Some things don't seem to match up to his Disney image, but it's all in good form.
His Dark Materials I'm pretty sure this is the third time I've read the series, but I just can't remember what it was about. I like the plot, but reading it gets tedious sometimes. One thing I know I don't remember is the weird romance in the third book. I think I like the first book the most, more action, less drama, more talking animals XD. I have a feeling that I loved thse books the first time I read them.
Artemis Fowl 1-4 Man, I love this series, it's one of my favorites. Boy genius, very adorable. I like the whole fairy tale angle about it too. The outsmarting evil villans is fun. I have a feeling that I've read this series several times, but....I really have no clue. Good books, highly recommended. Hm....Artemis kinda reminds me of one of my friends. whee
Twilight One of the best books I've read...ever. This one goes to the top of my favorite books list, along with Ender's Game and all those other wonderful books I can't remember. It's about this girl who moves from Phoenix to a small town in Oregon. She meets this guy that seems to hate her at first, but they become a couple like...60 pages into the book or something. The thing is, he's a vampire, and so is the rest of his family. And they get into this hostile situation with another vampire and the girl has to be protected...and yeah, no more spoilers. xp I CAN say that she almost dies once or twice, and those are my favorite parts. Somehow, dying is very romantic to me, especially when the other one is frantically trying to save the dying one. Hooray vampires! heart This book is written from a girl's perspective, and it's very romancy, so I'm not sure if guys should read this. I won't be able to look at guys called Edward the same again. whee
So....recent animes...
Blood+ Very good anime. In this one, there are these monsters called chiropereta (something like that) and a normal school girl finds that her blood can kill them. Her arch nemesis is her twin, whos blood made the monsters. Lots of sword swinging gory action, death, and a dash of romance. The whole plot is just Saya ( the main character) going around to kill these monsters and her sister. There are some pretty hot guys in this thing too. As for pairings, I couldn't decide on which one I liked best at first. Haji is Saya's chevalier, but she sort of made him....so that's kinda of weird. Solomon is Diva's ( the twin) chevalier, princely, kind, and all that other jazz. After watching the whole series though...I think HajixSaya is better than SolomonxSaya. True, Haji next to never shows emotion, but there's real love somewhere beneath that mask.
Serial Experiments Lain Pretty weird anime, at times it gets boring, especially in the beginning. But all in all, not bad. It's set sometime in the future, near future maybe, and is about the life of an average school girl. When she find a mysterious chip and enters the virtual world, she finds that she's more than average. She might not be human. I have a feeling this anime is trying to say something about finding your identity, but I'm not exactly sure, there are so many possible themes. Serial Experiments Lain really made me think.
