Because I come up with too many ideas and such, somehow this one came to me a few months ago. I believe there's a better title out there, but I don't know what yet. Anyway, the concept involves the hero of the story is an RPG enthusiast and high school student who is suddenly drawn into a "Fantasy" Alternate Reality of his home, and that there are counterparts of people in both realities that vary from each other. Especially noted are five distinct girls in his life who will join the hero as party members. Eventually, he reaches a point where he travels between the two realities, and he gets to interact with the girls he's familiar with added insight.
The Fantasy realm is where more of the action is focused, while the "Reality" realm is where the dating sim elements and a few "bonus" statistic raises takes place. (In Riviera terms, consider the Real realm to be like going back to Elendia.) Further more, relationships between girls will have certain impact in battle, such as joint "Overdrive Techniques" (hi-ougis) that are obtained or increase in strength with a stronger relationship with a certain girl, stat bonuses, or even increased chances in critical hits or successful "status effects". Negative relationships are bound to have both negative and unpredictable (surprisingly beneficial) effects as well.
Pardon the stereotypes, but here are the characters in tektek form:
Jen
Gunner Form
The hero’s best friend. She’s a cheerful tomboy who’s generally easy to get along with, and always sticks by those she likes, and is somewhat eager to please. She’s also quite athletic. The hero really trusts and confides in her.
In the Fantasy Realm, she is a cold, lone wolf, gun-slinging bounty hunter. She doesn’t trust anyone very easily, and is acts very harsh towards people in general. She especially finds the hero’s initial friendliness towards her to be really annoying. She seems to be after something….
Highest Stats: Health, Speed Lowest Stats: Defense
Samantha
Assassin Form
A terribly shy bookworm. She’s an anxious wallflower who ends up keeping to herself and her books and fantasies lot. She’s generally a helpful person when given the chance, and is very gracious towards those who befriend. She has a mild interest towards the hero who’s one of the few people who treats her like a casual acquaintance.
In the Fantasy realm, she is a fairly emotionless assassin with two blades who rarely questions her loyalty. Because of this, it’s difficult to predict and understand her thoughts, making her a difficult opponent. She first pursues the hero after he witnesses one of her assignments, but he manages to elude her. Later on, she reveals a knowledgeable side quite similar to her “normal” self, along with an uncanny mischievous/playful side.
Highest Stats: Speed, Attack Lowest Stats: Health
Lillian
Oracle Form
An anti-social goth. Dressed in darkness, this chick would rather drive away the others with her sarcastic, ruthless personality and dabble in cynicism. She doesn’t have so many friends, yet she enjoys her solitude. In her eyes, the hero’s just another annoyance.
In the Fantasy Realm, she is an admired noblewoman full of grace, elegance, wisdom, and generosity. She also happens to be a miko-esque (“priestess”) esper blessed with divine psychic power. She is also fully aware of her feminine charm and is not afraid to use it to fulfill certain ends. She views the Hero with much interest, and in fact may really like him. Highest Stats: Resistance, Psi-Rating ("Intelligence" wink Lowest Stats: Attack, Defense
Marlene
Knight Form
The popular princess. She’s a haughty, selfish snob who likes to flaunt her status to others. She make act with false sweetness some of the time to appeal to the people. The hero and his friends view her with the strongest contempt, and she pretty much sees them in the same light. Surprisingly, she also happens to be Jen’s rival in athletics.
In the Fantasy Realm, she is the honorable Magi Knight of a noble house. She is an earnest, compassionate, and selfless lady willing to sacrifice her very life to protect those she cares for, and is greatly admired by her people. Because of their shared sense of valor, the young knight easily warms up to the hero and quickly considers him a comrade in arms, much to his confusion.
Highest Stats: Attack, Defense (By a margin) Lowest Stats: None *Most Balanced
Cherry
Esper Form
A spirited girl. She’s still in junior high, and she has quite the energy and imagination. She also happens to be particularly bright for her age and happens to be an excellent student, which is why the hero ends up coming to her when he has homework troubles. She also has uncanny intuition and proves to have excellent detective skills as further evidence of her brilliant mind. She happens to be the hero's next door neighbor.
In the Fantasy Realm, she is an offense-based esper who can manifest the elements in various forms, the strongest which are those of deadly mythical beasts. Her personality is largely unchanged. She happens to be a traveling hero of certain fame, and dresses in fairly lavish clothing, though her birth status is unknown. Some claim her to be the hero of some prophecy. Out of all the girls, she’s the only one who holds memories of both Realms, and decides to aid the hero in discovering the connection between them. She’s really ecstatic to see the hero cross over realms.
Highest Stats: Psi-Rating, Speed Lowest Stats: Defense ------------------------
Cody
Alternate Outfit
The hero of the story. He’s an eccentric video game freak with burning blood, but also a level head. He doesn’t seem to quite fit in a distinct social circle, but he does have a decent amount of friends to keep him content. Aside from gaming his life away and dealing with school life, he also spends an hour or two every day training in kendo because he thinks it’s fun. Obviously, he’s the hapless guy that ends up sent to an Alternate Universe one day…
In the fantasy realm, he suddenly gains a few psychic powers along with heightened reflexes. He’s excited to learn that this other realm is much like the fantasy RPGS he loves so much, but ends up exploring it in caution due to the added dangers and considerable changes. In his explorations, he starts to see the hidden sides of people he thought he knew, especially those of five girls in his life. How will this sudden insight affect him in the normal realm?
Highest Stats: Attack, Resistance Lowest Stats: None
Riley
Thief Form
A friend of the hero. He’s an excitable pervert, and proud of it. He’s also a fellow video game enthusiast. Surprisingly, the guy is an exceptionally fast runner that he could qualify for the Track and Field team, but his “hobbies” keep him preoccupied. No one’s really sure how he fits in to the circle of friends. In fact, both the hero and Jen end up keeping him in line half the time.
In the Fantasy Realm, he’s a thief, but his personality remains unchanged. He recognizes the hero as his partner in crime (although not literally. They just happen to work together on any sort of job like hired mercenaries), so even their relationship remains the same as well. He happens to know Jen, as well, but not personally. He fears her for her ruthless reputation. Highest Stats: Speed Lowest Stats: Defense, Resistance
Tai
Merchant Form
A good acquaintance of Cody's. He's a bit of a schemer and ladies' man, but he's surprisngly reliable when counted on. He plans on running a business when he grows up... or become a famous singer, if it fits his goals better.
In the Fantasy world, he's a successful merchant that sells valuable wares. He runs his business in a prominent city with a single handgun and holster at his side for "insurance".
Mr. Judeau
Cody's History Teacher. He's a stern, uptight individual who doesn't enjoy slacking off in his class. Despite his serious methods, he somehow presents a captivating method in lecturing his class. ~~~ If you for some reason have any contributing ideas, go ahead and let me know in the comments. And, hey... maybe a "for girls" version doesn't sound half bad, as well. wink
