For the first story arc of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, I discovered the only anme which has ever been able to effectively send chils down my spine. I'm a hardwilled person, that hasn't ever jumped at the movies except one, which was 3d, and provoked a natural bodily reaction which nobody in their right mind would WANT to supress. The reaction of moving aside when something is coming at you. I didn't jump so much as dodge.

Higurashi has provoked one of the most real reactions in me since I was a child. It was when Rena put her hand in the door in what I deem 'creepy mode' that I got a very real shiver up my spine, however, I'm still unsure if it was because my window was ajar and it is winter, but it made me feel spooked for a second too... I was a little amazed at the unhappy ending for Maebara Keiichi after the first story arc. Then even more astounded that he was back the very next episode in a different scenario... at first this didn't surprise me because I knew that, much like Fate/stay night, it was based on a game with multiple scenarios, but late in the series, I was stricken by the fact that someone was able to remeber the events of a different scenario... it was deeper than I thought... Like a murder/mystery version of Groundhog Day.

I guess Christmas time is a bad time to be staying up too late and watching anime. After all, my nephews will wake up the whole family, very early tomorrow morning. I won't get much sleep tonight.
