Belief and faith are tools for both innocence and ignorance. For instance, the way a child belives in fairies can be considered innocent and sweet. But faith in some religions and even certain people can be classified as just plain ignorant. Let's all ignore the evidence of evolution. Let's all just throw away issues like abortion and this damned war we started. (Yeah, thats right, I said we started it, if you dont agree I dont care.) Let's ignore the things that are there, hoping that maybe theyll resolve themselves or just go away. That is not going to happen. We need a balance. Everything in the world relies on it. A balance of good and evil, ultimately. A balance of love and hate. Of truth and the things we need to believe in. A balance of innocence and maturity. There is no room for ignorance. We need to see things as they are. Be realistic. Yet at the same time we need that bit of innocent hope. Maybe believe in something that not too many other people believe in. This, of course, without ignoring what needs to be noticed. The issues that cry for attention are not going away. Not now, not ever. Unless we can do something about them. The fact that a child in our country needs to be afraid of their stepfather needs to change. That a sweet, innocent baby can just put up with abuse not even adults could withstand. All in all, our country needs to grow a pair and get rid of the things that are hurting us. To let us feel safe, if at all possible. During my trip to Japan, I was blown away by the number of small children walking to school by themselves. Here those little kids would be abducted so fast it would make our heads spin. Its stupid. Its just plain stupid that kids here dont have to worry about being killed by malaria, but need to be afraid of their teacher, next-door neighbor, even a parent. We are ignorant of these things but we feel that its necessary to do whatever it takes to improve our monetary gain. The ends most certainly do not justify the means. But back to the innocence versus ignorance; be aware, not stupid. All things should be questioned and I dont expect any of you to take this advice completely and totally to heart. Because what do the ramblings of a fifteen year old girl have to do with your life? Everything.
