All of the agents were on special lookout. Someone had infiltrated the base. The same day the attacks began five new thirteen year-old recruits joined Bryanna’s division.
“Hi. You girls must be new here. My name is Bryanna but everyone around here calls me Bri,” she said to the new girls as she pulled back her shoulder-length, chocolate brown hair.
“My name is Rachel,” replied the girl on Bri’s right. She had her long, black hair pulled back into two pigtails.
“I’m Alice.” Alice had cherry red hair pulled back by a yellow headband with her freckles showing boldly against her fair skin.
“My name is Elizabeth, but I’d rather be called Lizzy. Elizabeth sounds too proper.” Lizzy had semi-long, blonde hair and looked like she put on too much make-up.
“Well, I’m Darcy and . . .”
“I can introduce myself!” The girl turned toward Bri. “My name is Sally.” Sally had dirty blonde hair messily pulled into a ponytail and Darcy had bright brunette hair with blonde tips at the end.
An announcement came over the intercom and the new recruits looked at Bri with a blank look. “Come on, we got to go.”
Go ahead without me. I need to use the restroom real quick,” Lizzy looked into a mirror, “and remove my make-up.”
"Ok, but hurry up! Coach gets made if you’re late” The group made their way to the mat and started to stretch. Lizzy ran in and barely had time to stretch. The coach came rushing into the gym and quickly stopped in front of the group.
“Good morning, ladies. I’m Coach Brown, if you didn’t already know. I will be training you and Bri could tell you it’s not fun and games in here.”
The girls began to stare at Bri. “It’s true and you don’t want to get on her bad side.”
“So first I need to do an evaluation using this course.” Coach pointed to an underground course.
“Well that looks easy.” Darcy rudely responded.
“Don’t be so quick to judge, Darcy. It may look easy, but trust me, it isn’t.” Bri gave Darcy The Look. Coach continued on with the explanation. She began to hand out different colored heart necklaces to everyone except Bri.
“What about Bri?” Sally asked as she fastened her necklace.
Bri pulled a purple necklace out of her pocket and fastened it around her neck. “I’ve had this when I was eight when I started training with my mom.”
“Ok ladies, on you go. You each will start at different area based on the color of your necklace. When the light turns green, you will begin.
Forty-five minutes later the girls came out of the course breathing heavily.
“Boy that was hard!” Rachel gasped as she grabbed a bottle of water bottle. She tossed one to Sally who fell back onto the mat.
“Thanks, Rachel,” Sally replied tiredly. She gulped down half of the bottle. Bri sat down next to Sally and Lizzy and finished off her water.
"Good job, girls. You are free to go.” The group turned to leave. “Bri, I need to talk to you.”
“What’s up?”
“Agent 001 forgot to mention that you’ll be staying with them and helping them.”
“Cool. Anything else?”
“Watch them carefully. There is suspicion that one of them is involved with the attacks.”
Sally, Darcy, Rachel, Alice, and Lizzy came running out of the locker room screaming. As they approached Bri, they all started talking at once.
“Slow down!” Bri shouted. “What is going on?”
We’ll show you.” Alice grabbed Bri’s arm and dragged her into the locker room. Everyone’s lock was tampered and there were crude drawings of all six of them with x eyes in red paint. Underneath the drawings was a message that said, “This could be you in the near future if you don’t back off.” Bri instinctually checked her locker for anything missing.
“Ok, who was here first?” Bri asked glancing from the lockers to the quivering girls.
Darcy spoke up first. “Rachel was getting her face cream. She was taking a while so I went to see what was taking so long.”
“I was cleaning my face. I went to see what Darcy and Rachel were staring at,” Alice added. “Lizzy and Sally followed me. It was they who screamed.”
“Did not!” Sally and Lizzy exclaimed.
“You guys did too.”
“Then everyone cleared out of the room,” Rachel recalled.
“Let’s just get dressed and put our stuff away,” Sally suggested.
“Remember girls,” Coach began, “keep those necklaces with you. It will help you outside of training as well as in training.” She quickly rushed out of the door, passing another group of agents coming in to get ready for training. Bri quickly told them what happened. They helped her block of the area so that no one would use the tampered lockers.
“Why are you two putting on lip gloss at a time like this?” Darcy questioned Alice and Rachel.
“It’s vitamin gloss. I always put it on after I work out, eat and at night. I gave Rachel my spare to use.”
“Anyone ready to go yet? I have had a long day, nothing like you guys have been through yet.” Bri called out.
“Bri is tired? Shocker,” Lizzy sarcastically replied.
They gathered their things and left the locker room. Bri lead them to where they would all be staying. The room had seven beds with dressers and desks near each one. There was a round table in the middle and seven beanbags in front of a T.V. with a DVD player built in. Everyone’s bags were already in the room, including Bri’s. Each girl put up posters, pictures, drawings or charms to make the little space they had personal.
A bell chimed throughout the room as they were unpacking and everyone looked at Bri in confusion.
“That was the dinner bell,” Bri explained. “Anyone hungry?”
“Yes!” Sally and Lizzy dropped whatever was in their hands and raced toward Bri. Bri lead the hungry girls down to the mess hall and quickly got in line before it got any longer. As soon as they got their food, the group headed for a table where a fifteen year-old girl was sitting by herself. She had bright, auburn hair and her wrists were red.
“Hey, Bri!”
“Hey, Lisa. How was the latest case?”
“Pretty good. I got a bad case of rope burn though,” Lisa replied. She held out her wrists showing the others how bad it was.
“Ouch, that has to hurt!” Alice exclaimed as she looked at Lisa’s wrists in awe.
“Wanted kidnappers can be tough,” Lisa answered. “I just got out of the infirmary.”
Bri quickly introduced everyone at the table to Lisa.
“At least now we aren’t the youngest. Or stuck with the eighteen year-olds at night,” Lisa sighed. It looked like Lisa and Alice already knew each other somehow.
Darcy quietly asked, “How bad were they?”
“Two kids, twelve and seven, and a twenty-two year-old who was very skeptical of what I could do,” Lisa eagerly replied. “Hey Bri, any idea of what’s going on?”
“Nope.” She looked at the girls, then Lisa. “We’ll talk about it later.”
“I’m going to need help with my stuff.”
Alice lit up. “You mean you’re moving in with us?”
“Yes.”
“How long did you guys have to train until your first mission?” Darcy asked Bri and Lisa quickly switching the topic.
“About five months.”
“That’s a long time!” Sally exclaimed.
“They just want to make sure that you’re ready.” Everyone finished their dinner and put their trays up. Alice and Lizzy left together earlier then the others to go to the room. The rest of the group headed to where Lisa and Bri used to stay and helped Lisa gather her belongings. When they entered the room, Alice was on the ground picking up her charms and pictures. Everyone else’s decorations, except Lizzy’s, were still on the floor.
“Alice, what happened?” Bri asked in shock as everyone but Lisa ran to her area and picked up the things. Lisa went to help Alice.
“Lizzy and I were on our way to the bathroom and she had to get something out of her bag. She came running in a minute later with her brush and pulled me in here. She went back to the bathroom. I have been here since.”
Just then, Lizzy strolled into the room. “Need any help Alice? Oh, hey guys. When did you get here?” Lizzy nervously responded.
"Two minutes ago. Alice told us what happened but your things aren’t messed up or on the floor like everyone else’s.” Lisa coldly replied. She turned back to helping Alice reorganize her things.
"Well when I saw what happened, I fixed my area before I went to get Alice.”
“And not theirs?”
“I didn’t know how they wanted them. I’m going to go take a shower.” Lizzy grabbed her pajamas and left.
“I’ll go and calm her down,” Darcy volunteered. She followed the direction that Lizzy took.
“Let’s just go shower than come back and finish cleaning up. We all need the rest,” Bri suggested. They all agreed. It only took five minutes to get to the showers. Bri and Lisa went to the opposite side of the showers room while the other five were on the other side babbling about celebrities.
“Ha thinks maybe one of the girls is acting as a spy, but we are not sure who,” Lisa started.
“I know. Ha?”
“H.A, Agent 001, same thing.”
“Well, I have no idea at this point on who would even try or have a motive. Whoever is causing all of this is doing a pretty good job of scaring us.”
“They sure are.”
Everyone was back in the room. Lizzy was calmed down, Alice and Lisa was murmuring while sitting between their beds, Rachel and Darcy were asleep, and Bri was turning out most of the lights. She then pulled out her laptop and started typing something.
“What are you typing?” came a voice behind her. Bri turned around and found Sally standing behind her.
“An email to my mother,” she replied. “Just an fyi, if you’re still up by 10:00 you might want to pretend that you’re asleep or they will make you sleep. Trust me.” She looked away with regret on her face remembering when it happened to herself.
“Got it. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Good night.”
“Good night.” Sally was up until 9:30 reading than fell asleep with the book on her lap. Lizzy snuck out just before a lady came around to check curfew.
"What are you doing out, Miss?”
“Using the restroom,” Lizzy innocently replied.
“Well hurry up then.” The woman walked into the girls’ room to make sure everyone was asleep and Lizzy snuck away from the woman’s sight.
At 1:00 in the morning, sirens shook the whole base, waking everyone up. The halls were filled with agents in their pajamas and urgency on their faces. Everyone quickly got up and glanced into the chaotic hall.
“Lisa, Bri, what’s going on?” Darcy inquired frantically.
They didn’t have time to answer. Lisa and Bri were already sprinting for their dressers. “We’ve got to get to the circuit room!” Bri shouted over the sirens.
“Let’s go!” They quickly ran out of the room while trying to put on a tool belt.
“What do you think is going on?” Alice wondered.
Rachel went over to Alice and sat by her. “I’m not sure. It’ll be alright.”
