Yum, musicfest.
Most schools in Southeast Alaska participate in a musical extravaganza that is commonly known as Musicfest. Every year, all music students in Southeast flock to a designated city (or town) to impress each other with their musical talents. Each year, the city changes in a cycle of three: Sitka, Juneau, and Ketchikan. Lucky us, this year it's K-town.
On Tuesday afternoon, the music students at my school will leave class and go to the ferry terminal where we would (among other things) board the ferry.
The ferry ride is long. It is very long. No, seriously, you have no comprehension of how long it is. Okay, whatever it's about thirty hours long.
Anyway, we get to Ketchikan and (as you've probably already guessed) we make some noise (also known as musac). We're housed out to our designated places where we will sleep and then we go there (to sleep, in case you hadn't gotten that).
I'm housing with a rather flirtatious gay man. If it weren't for his vow of celibacy, I would be scared. But I am afraid that he'll get me into some mess of trouble again (long story...I'll explain some other time).
Anyway, we go to music clinics, we perform the hell out of everything we know, and then we hop back on the ferry and go home.
We get in at eight o'clock in the morning. School starts at nine. We're required to be there. I hate our school system.
But the bright side is that I'll get to see friends from other towns that I don't normally get to see. I'm excited to see them, as well as perform boucoup de musac.
Another plus is that I don't have to do the alternative...
My music teacher has pretty much required us to go on this trip. He has set it up so that if we do not go, we instead must write a six page research paper on a topic of his choosing. We must have in-text citations and at least tent sources. He intentionally made it so that we would literally have three days worth of work to do on this paper. Luckily, most people have been intelligent about their choices and have decided to go on the trip.
Yay for knowledge, boo for stupidity. Yay for music, boo for essays.
Yay for musicfest...um...there really is not 'boo' for that one...
