“Hero's Come Back!!” is a song all about sticking together as a group and standing up against anything. In essences this song is the Greasers battle cry. The Greasers don’t have anything but each other so they always stick together. The Greasers know that it is safer to attack as one big group. A few lines from the song are, resist it, raise the moon, call me. Resist could be resisting the urge to fight on their own. By raising the moon, they could be lifting their mind above the anger to think clearly. Call me could mean to call the gang to fight. After Ponyboy was attacked by Socs the gang was worried: “‘Next time get one of us to go with you, Ponyboy,’” Two-Bit said. “‘Any of us will,” (p.13). Any one of the Greasers would be willing to stay with Ponyboy to make sure nothing happened to him.

In the song it says, I hear someone’s voice from far away. The voice could be a Soc or a group of Socs looking for a fight. The warriors that the song talks about could be the Greasers. The Greasers are tough and are ready to fight at any moment, like warriors. The song mentions a street that only comes back. The street could be a metaphor for their society. No matter what happened or what they did, the Greasers would be on the bottom and the Socs would be on top. The song asks when will you be ready to go. It could be asking when the Greasers are ready to fight or it could be asking when they want to change the world.

Come on, everybody stand up, could mean that the Greasers are getting ready for a fight. Stand up, the nest time is today, could be talking about making a home. A nest is a home for birds. This means that the Greasers could be trying to make a home for themselves. Move with blinding speed, don’t slow everyone down, could be talking about the Greasers code. As a Greaser, you have to be tough, good under pressure, and fairly smart. By moving at blinding speed you are moving at the same rate as everyone else. The Greasers are a family, and no one is allowed to fall behind. That means that no one can slow everyone else down. By counting down the average days, the Greasers could be waiting for the day when they get respect from others.

Near the end of the song they talk about always getting back up. The Greasers are constantly put down by the people around them. You gotta get back up, no matter how far you fall, are the best lines to describe the Greasers. No matter how many times the Socs and society put them down, they always bounce back. One of the lines that I liked the most was; you’ll suffer now as you stand back up, but I’m sure you can make it to the top. It’s saying that the Greasers will keep getting beat down, but in the end they will be accepted. This song perfectly captures the spirit of the Greasers.
