→Character Name: Selini tou Skoteinos (“Moon of Darkness”)
→Race: Planetouched Human (Shadowswyft)
→Age: 19
→Gender: Female
→Class: Shadow Warrior
→Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
→Appearance: Height - 5’8” Weight - 120 lbs Hair - Her hair is jet black, straight, and upper-back length, often tied in a pony tail with the bangs that weren’t long enough to fit falling to either side. Eyes - Her eyes are a brilliant auburn brown. In brighter lights they appear golden and in darker lights they appear a menacing red. Despite their unnatural beauty, however, they are virtually never seen due to her blindfold. Profile - Selini is tall (relatively) and slender, with a physique of athletic fitness. Due to her shadow elemental blood, her skin is tan and slightly dark, and her muscles are toned and femininely defined. Her features are otherwise distinctly Caucasian. Clothing - She adorns a black, cloth, sleeveless tank-top and slightly baggy black cloth pants tied tight at both ankles. Around her wrists are black cloth armbands that reach about half a foot up her arm and are inlaid with long, tempered, stainless steel plates spaced half an inch apart (probably the greatest form of protection she wears, allowing her to be able to take some solid blows yet still not hindering her full scale of movement). Her shoes are black cloth with heavily padded leather soles so that her footsteps are perfectly silent. She also wears a hooded, full-circle cloak made from the hide of an extremely rare black tundra wolf. As with all leather cloaks, it has been soaked in oil for waterproofing and the inside is lined with the fur of the animal. Finally and most notably, a large, rounded, blue gem hangs from a silver necklace around her neck and a black cloth blindfold almost always covers her eyes, the excess cloth tied at the back of her head and falling down with her hair, with triangular golden clips, engraved with a lotus blossom, attached to each end.
→Equipment: Quarterstaff - A simple, worn, wooden staff 5 feet in length. Throwing Daggers - Four black, 4” throwing daggers, two fastened in hidden pockets on the outer shins of each pant leg. Tsuki - Strapped to her belt is a dark leather sheath that holds this polished silver blade. Eastern in design, this 6”, curved, single-edged dagger shines like the moon. An inch and a half of the blunt side, closest to the hilt, is sharp and serrated. Its hilt is an equally bright silver with four sky blue diamonds inlaid in it, two on each side above and below the grip. Sora - Strapped to her belt is a dark leather sheath that holds this black-stained blade. Eastern in design, this 8”, curved, single-edged dagger is virtually invisible in darkness. An inch and a half of the blunt side, closest to the hilt, is sharp and serrated. Its hilt is equally black and plain, with one exception; an immaculately polished golden disk, normally covered by her hand while wielding it, that unnaturally intensifies the reflection of light from its surface. Croix Stone - A large, rounded, sapphire blue stone bound to her neck by a silver chain that is said to contain mysterious powers.
→Abilities: Poison Fist - A fully soft-strike based variant of the Praying Mantis and Snake styles of Kung Fu, invented by Selini herself, which utilizes her unnaturally attuned senses and energies to strike key pressure points in an opponent’s body in order to stop their flow of energy or nerves to that area, effectively disabling them. In its extreme, this style is capable of fatal internal damage without as much as a visible scratch. Dance of Moon and Sky - The armed combat style that utilizes the illusion created by a shorter sliver and a longer black dagger. Practitioners usually study various other twin dagger fighting styles simultaneously as this style leaves very little in the realm of defense. Blooded - As a shadowswyft, she can naturally sense stealthed, or otherwise hidden creatures and can quickly react to surprise attacks. Likewise, she also possesses extreme talent in the art of moving silently and hiding. Finally, she can see just as easily in darkness as in light; however, strong lights still blind and weaken her as with any shadowswyft. Blindsight - In order to overcome her race’s greatest weakness, Selini has learned to be fully functional without the use of her eyes. Using the senses of sound, smell, and a surreal sixth sense of feeling that comes from her connection to the plane of shadows she is able to perceive the world just as well, if not far better than anyone using standard or enhanced vision.
→Powers: None, as of yet...
→History
There once existed a clan of shadow warriors known as the Black Wolves who were notorious villains that raided villages across the land. After one such raid on the night of a new moon this clan found a strange child abandoned in the woods. Such a thing was not uncommon, as mothers would often hide their children in nearby wildlife in an attempt to save them from the raid in hopes that a villager would survive, find the child, and give it a fulfilling chance at life. Whenever such hapless souls were found, the Black Wolves, in some sense of ‘mercy’, would kill them on sight. This child, however, was different, and as she was just about to be slain the chieftain of the clan stayed the sword. This child did not cry at the sight of the battle-hardened clansmen, even after being handled so roughly. She also seemed to almost blend in with the darkness, as if she belonged. Most notably, however, was that this child’s eyes shined an eerie blood red as they gazed complacently up at the fiercest of men. The chieftain declared the child an omen of good fortune and adopted her as his daughter, naming her “Selini tou Skoteinos” after the new moon that the shadow warriors so favored. The girl was fully accepted into the clan (after all, who would argue with the chief?) and raised as a warrior; a role that she fit quite well. Even at a young age she was an extremely fast learner, absorbing anything she was taught. At the age of 6, when it came time for her to learn the art of blind fighting, as was customary in the clan, she took to it exceptionally well; so well, in fact, that she decided to leave the blindfold on at all times. With the blindfold, the sun bothered her far less and she was no longer hindered by most bright lights as she had been before. Since that time she began to feel a stronger connection with the plane of shadow, enhancing her senses even more and imbuing her with an unnatural energy. Four years later she began to discover the dark energy’s potentials and started using it to develop her own style of martial arts using several of those she had learned. Despite how well she fit in, however, over time she began to develop a sense of something completely unheard of among a band of merciless killers... compassion. Despite her upbringing, she had assembled some skewed moral code that could, for all intents and purposes, be considered ‘good’. By the age of 16 she had mostly perfected her style and was revered and feared on the battlefield with her ability to ‘kill’ a foe with a mere touch. In reality, however, she was doing exactly the opposite. Realizing that she could not fight the code that her clan lived by, she had decided to use her abilities to save as many people as she could during the countless raids, paralyzing them in a near-death state, but saving them from an actual death at the hands of any other of her clansmen. In this way she saved almost entire populations of raided villages, all the while being cheered on by the oblivious shadow warriors. This went on for three whole years, until one fateful day when the council decided to move upon a stronger, more prosperous village... a village called Yunsibit. The magic academy there would provide the clan with countless riches and magical artifacts that would make them stronger than ever; or so they thought. The raid started off very well, and in minutes the town was in chaos. In the midst of it she continued her attempts at saving as many as she could, and this time someone noticed. An old man began to fight her, holding his own as an equal long enough to spout out a warning. “This town is doomed, child, but that is only the beginning. You have awakened a great evil that sleeps here, but you also are destined to stop it! Take this stone and leave, child. You must live now; it is your destiny to save the world!” Before she even knew what she was doing she had stopped fighting, taken the offered stone from the man, and fled. Then it happened... from the hillside tree-line outside of town she felt an enormous power surge over her; a power so terrible that, for the first time in 13 years, she removed her blindfold. On that day she witnessed first hand the single most destructive force she had ever even dreamed of annihilate an entire village in a matter of seconds, turning every last building to dust and rubble. The pain was so great... the blinding flash of light and power, the loss of all her family, friends, and comrades, the deaths of so many innocents... it was on that day that her brilliant eyes faded and her retinas grayed... it was on that day that she truly became blind. The young man leaving the ruined city in a daze was possibly the last thing she would ever see.
A week later Selini was on the road to the nearest city. Her father’s gold-crested blindfold was around her head and his silver chain bracelet holding the sapphire blue stone around her neck. She was the only one who knew of the horror that was approaching, and the only one who could stop it (apparently). She would find the man whose figure was permanently burned into her mind... she would save the world!
