I Have A Story To Tell...Will You Listen?
A story about an Ice Dragoness takes shape...one piece at a time.
Thank You.

The crowd's roar was in her ears as she kicked her opponent's feet out from under him, his fatigue disallowing himself from catching his body as it hit the dusty colliseum floor. She promptly dropped after him, digging her shins across the back of his knees as she flipped him over, grabbing his wrists to hold them painfully behind his back. She freed one of her hands to go for his neck, her long fingers clasping around it. The bell rang, she knew that the fight was over.

She released the defeated Gaian and stood up, extending a hand down to him. He rolled over onto his back and looked up at her, smiling a bit. "Good fight." he said simply as he took her hand and got up with her help. "Hey, sorry about that." he continued, nodding towards her arm where there was a gash from his spear that had been knocked away. She shrugged, saying "Let's get cleaned up." He nodded and they both headed off the field to the cheers of the crowd, her long blue hair falling out of its clip slightly from the fast-paced fight that had just taken place.

The fights were never choreographed, in fact the mother had never even met her partner before now. Nevertheless, death was never an outcome and the small cuts and bruises were treated shortly afterwards. They passed the medical staff, but didn't stop. Those were for during fights, incase anything unpredicted happened. Of course, it was all technically unpredicted. The two entered the smaller infirmary, gathering the materials that they needed from the resident nurse and going their own ways. She went to sit down on one of the beds and opened the antiseptic to put on her cut. He went over to a waiting woman, his girlfriend.

No-one went over to the mother, she didn't like to drag her family or friends into what she did. She finished cleaning her cut and after applying a band-aid, returned the supplies to the nurse and went on with her daily routine. She travelled up the steps, up from the pit to the stands. People along the way congradulated her, but everyone was careful not to do any rough congradulations with the fighters, out of respect for sore muscles. She waited her turn in line as the spectators collected the results of their bets and made new ones. It could be a lucrative or destructive sport for the gamblers, and there weren't many fighters who could make a real living on it, doing it day to day. Though something in the woman's blood seemed to make it easier to exert herself time and time again, no doubt traces of the full draconian that she had once been.

She collected her winnings, a fairly large sack of gold. She hardly ever spent any of it on anything other than necessities though. She was saving up for some home extensions; her baby was growing quickly now that she had reached the Weyrling stage. She made her way to the exit, frowning slightly when she saw her friend near the large doors. Wasn't she supposed to be home watching Gwendolynn and Jinth? The frown turned into an outright glare as she saw who was with Maxlacus. She tried to keep her anger controlled, but her strides widened and she came right up to Max's ear.

"You know I don't like her here." She hissed. Max shrugged, undeterred by her friend's anger. "She wanted to be here...she wants to know what her mother's doing." That softened the mother immediately and she dropped to a kneel, putting her to look squarely at her large dragon-child, the warm eyes looking back. Smiling sadly, she stretched out her hand to scratch some of the sloughing skin behind Gwen's flappy ears. Looks like she needed to oil that spot again. Then she noticed something.

"It's for you." Max said simply, leaning against the wall behind her.

The mother moved her hands underneath her child's chin and the dragon dropped the large box into her hands. The mother moved out of some of the spectator's way as she unwrapped the ribbon from it and opened the plain box. Looking at its contents explained why the box had felt somewhat heavy, seeing as how it contained an Ice Gauntlet. She looked to her child, then up to Max in disbelief before finally saying "Thank you." Max grinned mischeviously.

"You're welcome. Hopefully it makes up for me bringing Gwen here for at least a month to watch you."

"Max..."

"Yeah?"

"I am so docking your babysitting-pay."
