How long had she been staring at the potion bottle before her? It felt like hours, but maybe it was only minutes, her nerves were getting the better of her. What would it be like, to be her former self again? She peered over at her child, who peered back at her with draconian eyes. Smiling, she took the bottle and swallowed her fear. She uncorked it with a pop, and a mist seemed to drift out of it. Smiling again at Gwen for re-assurance, she brought the bottle to her mouth, and took a swig.
She felt like throwing up.
She slammed the bottle back down on the table, eyes closed in both disgust and slight pain. The jewel most certainly dulled the pain...but it was rather uncomfortable to feel the horns grow out of her head, to feel her feet elongate. The feeling slowly faded away, and she brought a tentative hand up to her head, tracing the long ice-horns that were there.
"Almost there dear...almost..." she said re-assuring to a rather startled Gwen.
She went to take another swig and hesitated. Maybe she should have done this outside...That split-second was all that Gwendolynn needed to lunge at her mother knocking the bottle to the floor, breaking it and rendering the potion useless.
Ice could feel the rage well up inside her, but one look at her baby, terrified and shaking in the corner, quelled it instantly. Crawling over to her, she gently pried Gwen away from the wood and held her re-assuringly in her arms, gently rocking.
But of course Gwen would be scared, she had never seen her mother's true form. How could she have been so stupid? She was so focused on being a dragon again that she forgot everything else...and now look what it had done. The dragonet was slowly calming down, its mother was there...there was nothing more to fear.
