Growing up never was such a sham
Throwing away the barbie dolls
and then dressing the little girls up.
Our manequien eyes look up to you
and fake smiles plaster to yer mind like glue.
Tha reality we always stayed
yours to keep
yours forever
Puppies grew and somehow we knew
one day we too would be too old to be played with
so our minds we stopped and
rules were taught
yet here we are with heart strings pulled
and no one to answer to.
Stuffed animals locked away and imaginary friends kept at bay
we try so hard
and reject our love
books and dreams that give us wings
then teachings and parents
rip through the seams
what's so wrong with the happy ever after?
We'll get hurt and wronged but
To each our own
and yet they try
to define the binds of our heart
into this one little rule:
What you see is what you get
Well what I see you can't see
cause my mind isn't yours.
What I can hear, you can hear but I hear it different.
Now knowing I see what can't possibly be seen
you lock me away and shutter my dreams
It's a disease! It's a disease!
Naw, it's just dreams in the wind
giving me wings
He held me close and whispered in my ear
sweet nothings that rocked me to sleep
and saved me from the kill
Still they denied him
Real or unreal to you
He was there
How about you?
Have you seen the world and smelt every thing
every flower and blossom
heard every cry or felt every tear?
Where is the reality in you?
((What do you think is the subject of the piece and yes, it is the rough draft of the one I will be performing?))
