I see you are one of the few who have figured it out as well! It is a joke really, much like high school. All that matters is the diploma, they never truly prepare you for what you need to be prepared for. I think it is a difficult issue, because mostly it depends on the individual teachers. They think that just cause a person doesn't do their homework, or maybe doesn't show up for class, that they don't know the same stuff that someone that sits like a good child and does what their told.

Generally the funny thing is that a large portion of the people that don't pay attention or do their homework is because the stuff being taught is mostly common sense to them. Or they are intelligent enough to understand that learning about slavery in American history 1000 times over doesn't make any difference in how they recover from the blindside life deals you when you get /out/ of school and first set foot in the real world. I personally think teachers should be focusing on the REAL problems, like maintaining bills/payments and still managing your money and spending well enough to not fall into poverty or debt. All the while still having enough money to buy food to survive, and the knowledge to maintain a vehicle. And that doesn't include the toll all of that takes on your body when you don't have time to stay fit enough to prevent your body from being dominated by the everyday grind of repetitive labor and (ironically) lazyness due to exhaustion, combined. It's not an easy thing to jump into and survive if one isn't prepared! :s

I say, yeah, they teach well enough some things in schools, but really, they aren't teaching the important things about modern life. These tests and grade scores are so important, yet they have no actual use in life other than being just something you can put on your resume. And in the end, it all comes down to seniority and experience anyway. Very few people even notice, let alone acknowledge, intelligence anymore. Most are intimidated by it.

But in short, i totally agree with you, and i am not sure as to the impact it would have, but i think the petition is a great idea! smile Make sure you have your facts straight first though. Make sure you talk to powerful people, that always helps!
