Chapter 18
Irihi
I arrived too late. I crashed through the underbrush right as the haiena was carried away.
“DANNEN!” I screamed.
“You moron, why go after Mr. Hopeless? You’re just going to fail.” No Akisame, I have faith in Dannen. I love him.
“Please, Iri, don’t go, Dannen is miles away, you’ll get lost!” I will never tire or get lost until I bring my Dannen back.
“Dannen…don’t go… Dannen…Please, Dannen…I need you!” I sobbed. A small golden head popped out and stared at me. I ran, chasing my only hope.

“KISA, STOP!! Tell Yuki to stop!!”
“What is it?” Dannen blinked his large brown eyes slowly.
“STOP!!!!!!” I screamed. Yuki lurched to a stop.
“Kisa, what is Hachi saying?” Yuki called.
“I’m not sure, we’re too far away. Let’s keep going.”
“No, you idiots, stop!” They continued, unheeding my barks.
“What is it?” Dannen whispered, curiosity burning in his gaze.
“Help me down.” I said.
“What?!” He whispered in surprise, excitement dripping from his tongue.
“Please, just cover for me!” I growled in exasperation.
“Okay?” his voice was thick with doubt.
“Thanks.”I flashed a gratitude-filled smile. He still wasn’t fully trusting. While he was pondering his decision, I wriggled from Yuki’s grasp. Nobody seemed to notice my freefalling body as the wind and a bush cushioned my fall. I ran to the hyena.
“HEY! YOU!” I called to her. She turned to me and widened her eyes. I noticed an old scar cutting into one of them.
“Are you the vixen travelling with Dannen, abandoning hope of the Haiena clan?” She breathed with happiness.
“Dan’s hopeful! He’s just put down and dumb in the fact that he believes that his name controls his fate!” I snarled at her. She stepped back.
“The haienas believe strongly in destiny. I was almost killed in the evening sun; such is my name and destiny, Irihi.” She flicked her tail towards numerous cuts and scars disfiguring her body. I was exasperated with her words.
