Chapter 19
Yonagi
I slumped against a tree, feeling the bark rustle my fur. Stupid. You’re going to die. Come back to me, little sister. I felt warm tears touching the dark fur of my muzzle.
“Yonagiii, Yonagi, I found the most perfectest place for us!”
“Iriii, slow down, you’re too fast!”I called out to her.
“See, look, isn’t it the greatest?” My mouth dropped as I met the beauty in front of me. The grass swinging gently to the breeze. The perfect viewpoint of the clan. Dandelion seeds floating around, like lost dreams bringing happiness to all that viewed them.
“Iri, it’s so prettyful! It can be our secret place!”
“Uh-huh! And we can see the wholes clan!!”
“Yep!” We laughed and danced in the long grass. Finally, we fell on the ground and looked up at the never-ending sky. I knew that the goddess Amateasuo watched over us, and pride filled my heart.
Iri, why did you leave me? You won’t find Dannen, he is long gone! I looked at the small pups listening to stories with their parents.
“Auntie Sanda! Auntie Sanda! Pwease tell us a beddy time story, pwease?” we rushed at the older haiena.
“You little rascals, why not bother your mother?” Sanda-ba-do said coolly.
“Mama’s sleepy. Besides, when will our cousin be born? Will she be a girl? I hope so! Then she can play with me and Yonagi!!”
“Irihi, I doubt that it will be a girl, also, it won’t be your cousin.”
“Will you please still tell us a story?” I gazed at her with big brown eyes that nobody in the right mind could say no to.
“Fine, Yonagi.” Sanda sighed and smiled a secret smile to herself. Irihi and I wagged our tails rapidly and leaned against her warm, spotted fur. “Has Iriumi told you the tale of the Sun Goddess Amateasuoomikomi, and her children?” We shook our heads. “Okay then, Lady Amat is the goddess of the sun and she watches over all of the haienas. She had two children, the spiteful Dianichi and little Ichidou. Dianichi was always jealous of their younger sibling, because Lady Amat loved Ichidou better, because it was prophesied that Ichidou was the golden child, the one that could someday rule over the haienas. Therefore, Dianichi came up with a plan to get rid of Ichidou. One day, Dianichi came to the desert land and to a golden family, where Dianichi gave Ichidou to the unsuspecting mother, who took Ichidou, because she thought that Ichidou was her own child. Someday, Ichidou will find out who they are, and go back to their mother to gain revenge upon Dianichi.” I was whisked away by her soft voice and compelling words. Someday, I promised myself, someday I’ll help Ichidou regain their place. “Now, get to sleep, I’m going to.” We groaned, but rushed to our den.
