The ambulance came, taking Sah-mule.
Foncé sat out in the waiting room with his hand in his hands. Two cops walked up. "Hello, are you his friend?" Foncé nodded. "Yes, sir." The cop motioned him out of the room. "What happened?"
Foncé bit his lip; the cut started burning on his throat. "Sah-mule saved me."
"From who? I need you to talk to me eh-."
"Foncé... Sah-mule saved me from my self. I had the knife to protect me on my walk home from prom. Something happened, that kind of made me crash so.. I took out the knife and was about to... commit.. s-suicide.. but Sah-mule tackled me and knocked it out of my hand. I looked up and saw.. S-S-," he felt his eyes burning with tears as he choked. "Sah-mule was under the bench! There was so much blood and - and -an! He saved me! I want to know if he's okay! I'll never forgive myself if he dies!!" Foncé put his head into his hands.
"So, what happened that made you crash?" The cop asked. "I was kissed... I have trouble with people touching me." Now he knew he sounded pathetic. "Why can't you stand to be touched?" Foncé noticed the cop behind him taking notes. "I...... can't say why..I'm not allowed.." It was silent. The cop taking notes closed the note pad. "There's a doctor who would like to talk to you now. Wait here." The officers left. A woman with curly blond hair walked in. The officer handed her the note pad.
She scanned through it. "Foncé- have you ever tried to commit suicide before?" Foncé hesitated. He had thought about suicide before and had desperately wanted to, but never placed his thoughts into action. "No ma'am." She scribbled some notes down. "Is it okay if you stayed here for a while? We called your father, Shawn, and he said he had no problem with it." She smiled.
"I suppose, but what for?" His heart was racing- was it to stay with Sah-mule?! Her smile faded. "I'm not going to lie to you Foncé, but it's so you can visit an asylum. We just want to make sure you're okay and not just from the suicide attempt, but because of the blood shed as well. It can be very stressful for a teenager to see something like that." Foncé thought.... "Fine, but can I see Sah-mule while I'm here?" Her smile returned. "You may, and when Sah-mule can walk and move around, perhaps he'll come and see you. Would you like to see him now?" Foncé jumped in his seat. "Please!?"
The doctor walked with him to the elevator. It reached the sixth floor. "Room 608. I'll come and get you at 9:30. Oh, can you make sure he takes two Ibuprofens for me? Thanks." She waved and headed to the elevator. "Thank you doctor."
He walked down the hall. 606..607...608! He carefully opened the door and walked in. Sah-mule was laying in bed; looking out the window. Is he awake? "Sah-mule?" Foncé walked to the side of his bed. Sah-mule jumped. "There! T-There! There's the guy who tried to kill me!"
"What!? N-no! Sah-mule! I'm sorry!! I didn't try or want to kill you- please! I'm sorry!"
Sah-mule laughed. "Awwww, you really are cute when you're worried. "Sah-mule smirked. "Ah-ha, shut up and take your medicine." Foncé laid two pills out as the doctor instructed. "God, now you're fussing at me like an old married couple!? I kinda like it." he took the pills. "That's it! Are you trying to scare me!?"
"Nah, but I understand if you're homophobic." Sah-mule pointed to the chair by the bed. Foncé sat down; he didn't know what he was anymore. "I don't think I'm homophobic, it just kind of surprised me, but mainly, I can't stand to be touched by anyone."
"Because of your dad?"
Foncé nodded. How did his life end up like this? Everything has a reason, but not always and easy answer.
The clock on the night stand read 9:20 p.m. "Eh, Sah-mule, can I visit you tomorrow? I'm going to be here at the hospital for a while so I can come any time you want." Sah-mule smiled. "Come at 1:30 p.m. when visiting hours start. Just one condition." Sah-mule leaned in close with his eye lids half closed. "Foncé didn't know if he was going to try to kiss him or what. "Foncé....." Sah-mule smirked. "Do you still lllooooooovvvveeeee me?" Foncé disapprovingly shook his head and flipped him off. "Foncé! We're in a hospital!!! but I'll take you up on that offer when we get out." Sah-mule winked at him. Foncé rolled his eyes. "So... are you ... you know.. really- "
"Gay?" Sah-mule cut him short. Foncé nodded. "Well I am gay. I guess you can say that's why I don't have many friends; guys fear I'll love them, and girls... they just annoy me." Foncé adjusted himself in his seat. "I'll be your friend." He smiled. "Thanks, just.. don't sue me." Sah-mule took a sip of his water. "Why would I sue? You saved me!" '
Does Sah-mule not trust me?'
"Uhhmm... heh.. for .. s-sexual harassment.." He scratched his head and looked out the window as he rushed the sentence out of his mouth. "Wouldn't even think about it."
The doctor walked in. "That's your cue I guess... before you leave.. can I have a hug?" Foncé leaned in to hug him, but jumped back when Sah-mule yelled.
"AAhh! Shhhhhttt- ah-gr ngh..."
"I'm so sorry!! I didn't mean to hurt you! Did I hit the cut!? Are you okay!? I'm sorry!" Foncé stepped back and saw Sah-mule smiling. "Your worried cuteness never gets old."
The doctor walked Foncé out. "So.. how long have you two been together?" The blond doctor giggled. So unprofessional...
"We're just friends." Foncé's voice shook. He felt so alone and confused. "Don't worry, you should be out in no time." That's what they all say.. he sighed. "Will I be out before Sah-mule? I don't even know how badly he's hurt." They went into the elevator. "Well, he almost got his heart, but he punctured his lung. Some of the blade was broken in side him, but we got all of that out."
'All that happened? How much pain did Sah-mule really endure? how can he smile!? How can he still want to be my friend?'
The halls were quiet as they stepped out onto the second floor. She turned to a room and unlocked the door. "This is where you can sleep tonight. Tomorrow, you can start therapy." He walked into the dull room. Everything seemed or was so round in there.
the bed rail was covered in styrofoam and the carpet was soft. Foncé sat on the bed looking at the round table by the bed. It was like a giant play room, where there was no way he could get hurt. He laid back on the bed, hopping things would be more clear tomorrow.
Wondering what his dreams would be like tonight he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
heart heart heart
Sah-mule woke up the next morning feeling worn out and sore. 'Oh gawd.' His mother was sitting next to him. She was flipping through a yaoi manga book, going the wrong way. "Oh good. You're awake! How can you read this yaoi? It makes no sense!" She paused to read a page and then continued to flip. "It helps to read it correctly." He rolled his eyes. Foncé walked in the room; he looked horrible. He was almost as pale as his hair and his eyes were a dull gray. He saw Sah-mule's mom and froze wide eyed. 'Oh hell!' He thought as she jumped to Sah-mule. "You're not a drugatic, alcoholic pervert. YOU'RE A SON STABBER!!!!!!" She wrapped her arms around him.
"Ow! MOM!!! Leave Foncé alone!"
Foncé looked down and walked out. He'll come back later...
he went back to his room. He noticed a window at the end of the hall. He walked down to look out of it. It had a nice overview of a garden. "Hey! You stole my spot!" Someone behind him said. Foncé turned and saw a gilr with thin black hair in a wheel chair. "I'm sorry. I'll just leave." Foncé turned to leave and go back to his room. "I'm kidding boy. Will you talk to me?" Foncé came back and saw the smile on her weak face. he couldn't figure out why someone liker her was here. "I'm Carolinia- so they call me. Are you new here? I've never seen you before." She looked down into the garden. "I am." He merely said. "Gee, you must be here because of a quiet syndrum. Seriously, why are you here then?" She was happy for someone to be in a hospital. "For attempt in suicide and being 'scarred'- perhaps. What about you?" Foncé sat on the floor. "I was here as a patient for leukemia, but I guess I tried suicide to many times, or I wouldn't be here." She scratched her head. "You seem so happy. Why would someone like you wish for death?" Foncé asked. "I could ask you the same! If it wasn't for the happy part. Anyway, people don't realize how tiering it is, also the depression." Carolinia sure was chatty. "So, what 'scarred' you for life?" She turned her chair towards him.
"Last night was my school's prom, so I went with this girl who I thought was perfect. Turns out she was trouble. Sa- my friend, saved me from her- who is a guy." Carolinia nodded. "Well, we were dancing and all of a sudden, he kissed me! I can't stand people touching me- for a personal reason, so I guess I flipped out. also, at the fact that my best friend was gay. So, I ran to the school garden; took out the knife he gave me; and held it at my chest." he showed her the scar between his clavicals (collar bones). "Sah- the friend who kissed me jumped and knocked the knife out of my hand, but it ended up in his chest. It punctured his lung." Carolinia leaned back in his chair and smiled. "AAwwww! You should go with your gay friend! Screw the girl!" Foncé wished it was that simple.. maybe it was. "I'm not gay, I can't even act like it!" Carolina laughed. "Try it, start by hugging him."
She looked down the hall at a tall doctor with dark brown hair; waving and curlingly wind blown down to his jaw line. "Speaking of hugs, I wouldn't mind hugging Doctor Paris." She laughed. "Caroline, it's time for your kemo." A nurse called. "coming! By the way, what's your name?"
"Foncé."
He waved good bye. She seemed to happy to be in a place like this... or to be human... Foncé just couldn't get over that. It made him happy though.
He walked up to a nurse at the desk on the hall. "Excuse me. Can I go to the gift shop? I would like to get something for my friend." She nodded, so Foncé took the elevator down to the main floor.
What was he going to get for Sah-mule? He thought as he hit the button for the first floor. Would he want something manly or something .. pinkish? Is there a guide about gays? Guide for the Straight and Bewildered.
Foncé shrugged, for all he knew, there could be.
The doors opened and instanly the hall was flooded with sound. He hadn't realized how quiet it's been. He walked into the small gift shop. A get well balloon? He considered.
The shop was dimly lit and smelt unnaturally clean. A row of stuffed cats sat on a shelf. 'Would he like that?' Foncé thought about Patches. That gave him an idea. He picked up a black cat. He'll have to pull a few strings to fix it... literally. he grabbed a get well balloon incase he wasn't crazy for the cat. He walked up to the front counter, where an elderly woman sat. He placed the cat and balloon on the counter. "Awww, who's it for?" She smiled as she smacked on a large wad of gum. It's for my friend." He felt his eye twitch with every smack. "Well, you're a sweet one. I'm sure she'll love the kitty." Was it all that girly!?
She placed it into a red bag and tied the balloon to it. "sorry, we're out of pink bags. Is red okay?"
Would pink be a bad thing? "Yes, red is fine. Thank you." He paid and took the bag with him.
He figured Carolinia might know of something better. He stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the second floor. 'Hopefully it won't look as girly when I'm done with it.' He stepped out and saw Carolinia by her window. She was writing steadily, not pausing for a moment. "What are you writing about?" Foncé asked. She looked up. "I'm writing a book about this girl who's having sex with Itori and all of a sudden she says 'I fell like eating grapes.' so, she gets up and starts eating grapes. The she's all, 'are you mad?' and Itori is 'noooooo.....' *zips pants up*." Carolinia smiled.
Foncé really had no idea what or why she was writing that, but it sounded like it might be interesting.. with a story.
"Um, I have a question. I know you don't know my friend- the gay one- but I need help.." Carolinia sat forward in her seat; mouth a gaped. "I'm worried he won't like my gift." Foncé held the bag in front of him self. Carolinia tore out a sheet of note book paper and scribbled something down. "Here's my number. If it's a thong- call me when he puts it on!"
"He's gay.. he might not want you to see him in it."
"So!? He'll want you to see him in it though... MAKE ME SOME YAOI!!!!!!" She clapped her hands and smiled. "I'm not gay!" Foncé felt his face get hot, he knew he was blushing. "I got him a little black cat and this balloon. I was going to sow little stitches on it- to make it-.. not as girly." Carolinia reached into a bag that hung on her wheel chair. "Give him this." She handed him a book with a boy and a man on the cover. Loneliness, was the title of the book.
“It’s yaoi! Trust me, he’ll like it. I know he hasn’t read this volume yet, it’s not even in the market yet.” Foncé flipped through the book. It’s a comic book. “How did you get it then?” Foncé paused seeing two boys kissing. It’s kind of cute, he supposed “I have someone in my family who always brings me manga because, she translates the Japanese to English.” "Ow! MOM!!! Leave Foncé alone!"
Foncé looked down and walked out. He'll come back later...

Foncé noticed that the theme was dragonflies. How unique, he thought. “Thanks Carolinia. It’s much better than the kitty… thingy…” She reached for the black cat and squeezed it. It meowed… Foncé bit his lip. ‘That really didn’t help..’ She laughed. “This is so ADORABLE!!!” She handed it back to him. “Again, Thanks. I’m going to see if I can visit him now.. Maybe his mom has left by now.”
“His mom doesn’t like you?!” She rolled her chair closer to him. “No.. not… really.”
Foncé shook his head. “See, you two make a great couple! Especially if you’re hated by the parents!” She laughed. He smiled and walked down the hall to the elevator.
