Taking a leaf out of Dante's book, I've decided to try my hand at actually laying out the metageography of some of the odder things I've mentioned in roleplays I've taken part in. Namely:
Entities: Whether by using magic, technology, biological power, or what-have-you, these beings are incredibly intelligent, multi-dimensional, and really freaking hard to deal with. The youngest ones are several hundred thousand years old, and never, ever state their actual age. Many claim to be gods, some the personification of ideals. Each has vast resources and personal power, though it varies from entity to entity. Some notable ones include Wheyah and its offshoots, The Pantheon, Iction, the Red Prophet, the Aesir, and many, many others. In a fantasy setting, they are gods. In a sci-fi setting, single minded civilizations. In realistic stories... they may be made reference to, but never appear.
The Red Prophet: Formerly a blatant self insert. Currently is the protagonist Entity (from my point of view) in all roleplays in which he has been mentioned. Its primary objective seems to prevent suffering as much as possible. Its servants have no distinct theme other than advanced technology, the ability to compromise, and free will. His followers include Masquerade, Hexapodath, and most if not all of the Daemons. Perhaps the eeriest habit of Prophet's is its lack of a single body, gender, and so on. It spans whole planets, and can work its way into the very atoms of a planet via nanotechnology. Prophet's primary shock troops are the Wing Soldiers, essentially science-fantasy versions of angels, and its agents also include the denizens of Pandaemonium, a single, massive semi-fractured dimensional whirlpool/city/continent/planet/galaxy/state of mind.
A Note on Planes and Spheres: Though they are describes as having size, they can also be pocket universes, bubbles of space time, and so on. Others are actual planets. Go figure.
Pandaemonium and Daemons: Taking from the computer and Greek terms, more accurately described as spirits or devices. Daemons can fall under any category of race, creed, style, belief, or power, provided they inhabit Pandaemonium, or have a link to it. Robots, demons, angels, elves, trolls, humans, clones, monsters, sentient spatial objects, it makes no difference. Provided they agree to follow the Red Prophet, and pledge to make the universe a better place, they are welcome, though they are allowed to leave if they wish, unless specified otherwise. Will often make deals with mortals in exchange for genes, cells, data, or other important items. Because of their autonomy,
Celestial Spheres: The celestial spheres are the realm of the angels, a highly advanced group of beings worshiping the Entity of Wheyah, a large and currently fragmented entity. The number of spheres is massive, and each sphere ranges in size from smaller than a football field to larger than a planet. Each of these realms is inhabited by angels of varying beliefs, though the more accepting areas may have multiple belief systems. Spheres range from peaceful utopian societies with dogmas of peace and goodwill toward all, to ultra-fascist theocracies bent on wiping out all of those who disagree with them, or have ever done so.
Wheyah: Wheyah is a former Entity, one of the few beings able to bend space to their will, create and destroy whole planets, and so on. Essentially a god, and one of the more powerful ones. Wheyah Prime was famous for having an incredibly stringent system of regulations governing angelic life. However, an internal conflict caused it to fragment into innumerable sub-entities and personalities, all claiming (some would say rightly) to be the original Wheyah. Each of these retired to a different sphere or spheres, with its own group of angels. In addition to being, by its nature, expansionist, it fights among itself a good deal as it cannot reconcile the contradictions in its own dogma. Essentially one giant metaphor for collective Christianity, Jewish, and Islamic beliefs taken one step further. Even though the beliefs may be radically different... it's still technically the same god that's being referred to.
Hell: Not really much to say. Essentially its just another group of angels more concerned with personal freedom and experimentation. They prefer to term their spheres "realms" or "planes" or "circles" largely just to sound different. Some of their top dogs are actually corrupted Wheyah fragments. On the whole, just as varied as angels, though the two variables, instead of being "level of nice and level of freedom" are "level of mean and level of organization."
The Reason For the Sphere/Plane Universe:
RP reconciliation. Supposing we have two RPers, A, and B. A is playing an angel. He has one heaven and one hell, which are currently in a "Cold War" type situation. Player B is playing as an angel also, but her character is in a world where demons have destroyed heaven, and she had to flee. How can you have a fun game with both of these characters at the same time? Simple:
A's world has a celestial sphere (A) and a demonic circle (a) that reside around a normal planet, called C. They are linked, but no dimensional gates to other spheres have been discovered. Player B has sphere (B) and circle (b). However, both of these realities can exist around planet C, provided that the planet itself was unaffected, but access to both dimension A and dimension B is possible.
There are an infinite number of circles, spheres and worlds, ESPECIALLY in the barton town forum. Using this strategy, I can have interesting backstory, a unique religious motif, and NOT ROCK ANYONE ELSE'S BOAT.
