I've been a bit spacey in thought these past few days. I keep looking at other people's work and original characters and wonder over and over ,"How did they find them?" I don't believe artists create their characters, but instead I believe they find them. It may be a little weird to think about it at first, but I really think that's how it is. Maybe that's how we came to be. We were not created, but instead found.
So here's where a theory of mine comes in. Inside everyone there are characters waiting to be found, but they're not always able to be found and expressed. What if your characters are just to weak to be noticed? Or maybe they're too strong and they come out as your other personalities? These could all be likely, but the thing about manga artists is that they can interpret them more cleary so they're not as strong or weak, they're the perfect balance (not to say manga-ka's can't be crazy themselves).
I can see your a little confused. It's alright, as long as your reading. Anyway, if my theory has even the slightest chance of being right, I think my characters will become clearer to me. To embody them, you must first find an understanding of them. You must know who they are, why, and how you can identify them as such. I hope my characters will entrust me to care for them. I hope I can embody them with pride and let them feel joy and pain, sorrow and relief. My closing sentence,"Manga is like no other canvas because you're able to let your characters feel, even if your not at that moment."
