Back Story: Shigekuni is the man responsible for the Soul Reaper academy ground, which he made 2000 years before the Bleach storyline. He also was one of the teachers instructing at the Academy and was the reason Syunsui and Jushiro became Captains after they graduated. He considers them as his own sons and is deeply proud of both of them. This greatly suggests that he is the oldest known Soul Reaper in Soul Society. He is a very wise and powerful man. The number of scars he has engraved on his body suggest how many fiece battles he has been apart of throughout his life. Not much is known about the Division Shigekuni is Captain of accept that Choutaro Sasakiba is his Vice Captain.
Zanpaku-to: His Zanpaku-to is named Ryujin Jakka. In appearance it looks like a large wooden staff which Shigekuni walks around with, but when he needs it he burns his Staff to dust revealing his Zanpaku-to inside. His initial release command "Reduce known creation to smoldering ashes" his staff turns into his Zanpaku-to and becomes engulfed in flames. Ryujin Jakka is the strongest and most powerful fire type Zanpaku-to throughout all of Soul Society.
Agent Of The Soul Reaper Series: Recieving orders from Center 46 he gave the command to Byakuya and Renji to retrieve Rukia from Karakura Town in the Living world and bring her back. With the forfilled retrieval, soon following was Ichigo and his friends and broke into Soul Society. Feeling a disturbance he sent a search party to the four Gates surrounding the Court Of Pure Souls. Finding out that one of the Gates was breached by Ichigo and his friends but pushed back by Gin, Shigekuni called for a Captain meeting. He issued an immediate search for the intruders within Soul Society and kill on sight. But he also scolded Gin for not killing them when he had the chance and ability to do so.
Soul Society: The Sneak Entry Series: When Ichigo and his comrades broke the boundry into the Court Of Pure Souls, Shigekuni placed everyone on full attention and had Rukia escorted to the Shrine Of Penitence.
Soul Society: The Rescue Series: The day arrived of Rukia's execution, Shigekuni promised to keep her request but had no intention of keeping it. Ichigo appeared and with the help of Syunsui and Jushiro they wiped out the Sogyoku. Shigekuni set his attention on the fleeing Syunsui and Jushiro and quickly gave chase catching them up. Up holding the law Shigekuni unleashed his Initial release, setting the surrounding area engulfing in flames and serious heat and asked for them to unleash their Zanpaku-tos. Seeing them as his own children in his past, he had no intention of taking it easy. He rushed forward and ended within a huge explosion. Upon recieveing the message of Sousuke's betrayel he rushed back to the Sogyoku but was at a loss when Sousuke, Gin and Kaname were transported to Hueco Mundo. Knowing that he was also trapped in Sousuke's hypnosis he disregarded any orders he receieved earlier from Center 46, let Rukia go and accepted Ichigo as a Soul Reaper allowing him to go home.
Anime Only! The Bount Series: As the Bount starting making their reputation grow more and more in the Living World he started to allow Soul Reaper's travel down there to help and fight the Bount and stop their plans. But when the Bount managed to break into Soul Society, he gathered together the Captains and placed Toushiro as the leader of the search and destroy team. Telling him to find the intruders, and if need be alert everyone of his location. And placed everyone else on a kill on sight command.
Arrancar Influx Series: Now knowing about what Sousuke is capable of, there was a sudden disturbance of Arrancars appearing in the Living World. Giving Toushiro command, he told him to meet up with Ichigo with a choice of party and fight alongside Ichigo against the Arrancar.
To Become A Vaizard Series: Finding out that Orihime had taken her leave to Hueco Mundo with the Arrancar he contacted Toushiro's team in the Living World and told them of Orihime's betrayel and classed her as a traitor and dissallowed them to follow her and telling them to come back. He then sent Byakuya and Kenpachi through a portal to retrieve Toushiro's team back into Soul Society leaving Ichigo alone.
Hueco Mundo: Fight To Reclaim Series: Shigekuni was informed that Rukia and Renji had ignored Shigekuni's order and gone into Hueco Mundo.
