Ding The slight breeze made the bells on the straw hats flutter about as the two people neared the gates of Konoha. One was taller than the other, with a large sword strapped to their back. The other was shorter, covering up every part of their body in order to hide anything recognizable. The taller one turned to the shorter one, and in a deep, growling voice said "Don't waste time on old rivalries... We do have a job to do here, my dear..." The shorter one replied withe a brief nod. The red clouds on the fluttering black background were a sure sign as to what organization they were with. A kunai came flying towards them. The shorter of the two pulled out a kunai of their own and threw it. The two hit, deflecting each other. The person who had thrown the first kunai blinked, his blank stare hidden behind tinted glasses. He jumped from his hiding place and stood in front of them. "You... You two are from the Akatsuki... Stop where you are!" his growl hidden underneath his cool exterior. The taller of the two Akatsuki turned to the shorter. "I can tell you're smirking... Is this kid someone you knew?" Another nod. "Well? Aren't you going to say hello?" This time, a quiet voice replied. "I thought you said no rivalries... What I have to say may just cause one... I don't want to disappoint you..." "It's funny how you care for my feelings... It's not like you care for anyone else." "That's a lie..." The ninja stared at the two shinobi. "What are you talking about?!" he snapped. "Who are you people!?" The shorter one sighed and pulled off their hat, strands of dark hair falling around a familiar pale face. "Shut it, Shino..." the young woman snapped, her voice as sharp as the katana she fought with. "You..." he said, his calm breaking down. "Oh? Do you remember who I am?" she asked, mockingly. "Setsuna... You betrayed the village... You would rather watch this village fall apart than to step in and save it..." "He does remember me! I would have cried if you had forgotten..." But they both knew that it would be impossible to forget what had happened, or each other. In the past, things were different. He would always remember their first meeting. She had been chasing a butterfly, as if it were more important than listening to the Hokage. He had been collecting bugs, which was something he always did. She had passed by almost silently, and so he had helped her catch the butterfly she had been after. She had been so gentle. He remembered how they had dated for a while, how her lips had trembled when he had kissed her, and how he had thought she was so perfect for him. That had all ended when she had betrayed the village, destroying the wall. He moved forward to attack her partner, but she stepped in front of him. Shino stopped. She cackled, high-pitched and cruel. "Oh, look! He won't attack his old lover!" she laughed, clapping her hands together. "So that's how you know him? Is this the guy you played like an instrument?" the other Akatsuki member cackled. "I guess you could put it that way..." she replied. "Get out the way..." Shino snapped, readying for another attack. "I wouldn't do that..." Setsuna yawned, pulling off her gloves and opening her cloak. The headband still had it's deep gash. "Why should I do what you say?" he growled. "Because... The wall wasn't the only thing that I planned... There are 67 other traps that you'll never be able to find. Attack either of us, and I'll set them off... One... By... One..." she replied. "Now get out the way!" Shino stood, frozen. Setsuna scoffed and walked past him, dragging the taller man with her. In the passing, Shino caught a glance of blue skin. Setsuna paused and turned around. "Oh! I almost forgot... You two have never met! I'll introduce you two!" "Setsuna!" the tall man growled. "We really should finish the mission! If we come back empty handed..." He left his sentence off there. "I insist..." she replied, glossed lips catching small streams of light as she spoke. The man scoffed, but did nothing to pull her along with him. Setsuna smirked and folded her arms. "Shino... Meet Kisame... Kisame. Shino. See? Wasn't that a quick introduction?" she snapped. Kisame sighed. "Now, we have to finish the mission... No more distractions, my dear." "Yes sir!" she laughed, faking a salute, buttoning up her cloak and skipping towards the village. Shino turned and watched. There was something he had always wanted to ask Setsuna. It had almost been four years, and he decided to ask. "Why did you leave the village!?" "Don't answer..." Kisame growled, handing her her straw hat. She smirked and sighed, turning around again. "Did I have any reason to stay?" she called back. The words were like acid, each syllable dripping with the painful truth. She smirked and turned back to the village, putting her hat back on. "I hope that's not the way that you're going to break things off with me.." Kisame muttered. "Who said I would? If this relationship ends early, my death will be the thing that breaks it off." she replied, nudging him a bit with her shoulder. Kisame smirked, shaking his head at her comment. "No... You're not going to die earlier than I am..." Setsuna stared at the ground and scoffed. If only I wasn't so quiet about the curse mark with you... she thought, covering one eye with her hand. She had told him everything about the fight against the fifth Raikage and Neji. He knew about her curse, and how it was driving her crazy, but he didn't know that she was dying because of it. Inside the village only a few were aware of any important happenings. People were going about their daily business, paying no attention to the possible dangers outside of their recently completed walls. They were blissfully unaware of anything. What only a few knew was that there was to be a diplomatic meeting between three villages that afternoon. People from Kumo, Suna and Konoha were meeting to discuss a treaty. Kankuro and his wife, Yumi, were to represent Suna, but Kankuro had other ideas of where his eight and a half months pregnant wife was going. She leaned back into the cushion of the chair. Her arms were folded across her chest, and rested on her belly. Her hair was down and fell in a dark, glistening waterfall down her back. She wore a dark blue dress which brightened her light skin. It fell in the way that hid how pregnant she was. Her husband stood across the room, leaning against a doorway. "I don't want to go to Suna... Not without you..." Yumi said in a near whisper. Kankuro sighed, but he understood her argument. "Look... It's better if the baby is born in Suna... I'll finish things quickly and be back home before you know it." "But what if you can't? What if you're not there when our first child is born?" He didn't know how to reply to this. "It's my duty to be at this meeting." "It's our duty to be there, but it's also your duty to be there for your child! For your son!" He froze for a moment. "When did you find out the gender?" "Yesterday... With my family's chakra-reading trait, it wasn't hard for me to find out... It's not like it really matters. You'll probably get stuck here with your duties..." ((Story is incomplete... I'll add on to it when I can...))
