My jaw dropped, my mouth was dry and my words were nothing but a whisper I couldn't believe my eyes especially after the letter I had read. I stood there and tried to get a hold of myself I eventually was able to stand straight, take a deep breath and speak a few words. "Oh Father! I though you were dead!" I gasped a little I still was dumbfounded by his utterly surprising reappearance. He just stood there and gave a warm smile at me.
"Come now my son are you still so surprised to see me alive?"
"Of course I am I thought you were gone, lost to us! and the letter...the letter father!"
"What the letter was if I never returned I would have hopes that you would inherit the family job"
"What job, your an art merchant, and what do you mean..family job?" Suddenly I felt the hand of the man who saved me on my left shoulder he gave a firm grip on it and spoke.
"Exactly what it sounds like fratello"
The man removed his hood and there stood before me the familiar face of my brother Dante. "Dante!" I said trying to make sense of this mystery. "You?, How? I mean..It was you?" He nodded his head lightly and tightened his grip on my shoulder.
"Yes, It was I. Father wanted me to come back for you, the time has come brother, we need your talent to come out and assist us"
"Assist you in what?" I asked for the twelfth time. I looked at my father who lifted his left hand from his black robe. He removed his ring from his third finger. underneath the metallic piece of silver was a burn mark that covered nearly one third of his finger. and he showed it to me and said.
"Figlio, you, Dante, and I..we are Assassins we serve an ancient cause that has been around since the time of our ancestors. we strive for peace in all things and we follow an ancient creed."
I stood there with a puzzled look on my face. "I am...an Assassin?" Dante removed his hand from my shoulder and to took off his ring revealing the same mark on his left ring finger.
"We are Assassins brother, try to understand this."
I stared at him with a resentful look. I didn't know what to say or think anymore. so many things were going through my mind at once, none of them good. "I don't want to understand I only wish to know" I said with a grim voice.
"One can always listen, but to not understand the words he is taught is like giving water to a dead man you cannot expect him to drink if he lacks the means to do so in this case understand the words" My father now walking towards me.
I was too shaken to listen let alone understand anything but I knew pouting about this wasn't going to make things any better. then I finally tried to humble myself to my father and brothers words. "Forgive me father, this just took me by surprise as all" I truly felt terrible by my behavior.
"Not to worry son but If you wish we must bring the talent out of you, show you the necessary skills needed to strike against our enemies."
"Enemies..."I said
"We'll explain but now we must get to work, follow me"
We all walked out the door to the deck I was uncertain what was going to happen but I was ready, willing and able...at this point my life was never the same
