the fireworks boomed overhead.
"their starting!" my mom said excitedley. i laughed and she came and sat by my side.
we watched the fireworks in silence, all except the clapps of the other people and the echoing boom of the fireworks.
i leaned against my mom, my head finding her shoulder.
she brushed her fingers through my hair and i sank into her lap.
"your legs are comfortable." i told her, she laughed and smiled.
a big bright smiley face lit up the sky.
"wow," i exclaimed.
"whats your favorite color carlie?" my mom asked me, catching me by surprise.
i was stunned, never before had she asked me a question like that.
"i have three," i stammered, still blown away.
"what are they?" she asked.
"purple, grey and white." i answered.
my eyes prickled and my throat filled with a lump.
was this bonding? my head cradled in her lap, her fingers pulling through my hair, savannah and kyle away in the background.
yes, this was bonding. my heart swelled with love and joy, a sparkley purple and white firework lit up the sky just then, fading into a flickering gold.
i held onto that one impossible moment, making it a memory, something i'd given up on. her caring about such trivial things like my favorite color, or my favorite drink.
id already asked her every question in the book.
i was curious, always wondering since as far back as i could remember.
i closed my eyes, letting the soft pull of my moms gentle hands sooth my aching heart and ease my worries.
the only sound was the distant blast of fireworks, lighting up my sky.
