Chapter 2
About two blocks from the apartment, Avalon grasps Rose's hand tightly when she sees a lot of scary looking people walking around alleyways and near dark areas like they are demons or something. Rose slightly smiles; it has been a long time since she felt a small hand grasp her hand like that. She actually wonders if this is the reason Lu Bu chose her to be his lover till his dying day.
Rose's train of thought is broken by Avalon's voice when she asks if she is actually allowed in the bar because of her age. She is hoping yes because some of the scary people followed them there and this made her uncomftable but at the same time she is hoping for no so that she and Rose can eat elsewhere. Rose answers her as they near the bar's door. "Yes, you're fine coming in; just don't leave the bar without me or one of the persons I introduce you to...
Avalon nods "yes ma'am"
The two reach the door and Rose opens it; Avalon walks in followed by Rose. The bar is crowded but spacious enough for five pool games to be going on, a light dance area to be happening and a game of darts to be played. Rose leads Avalon to the bar and helps her up to the high bar stool. Rose sits next to Avalon and taps on the counter three times. A beautiful young looking woman with neck length black hair, a slim black tank top that shows her flat chest proudly almost, a silver lion head necklace and loose black leather pants with military grade black boots comes over yelling to one of the other customers waving her right hand back and forth "yeah yeah, and I fought in world war I"
The customer replies "But it’s true, I saw a woman with long white hair rip three guys in two and the guys turned to dust!"
"Save it for some one that cares Joey" She replies. The woman ignores Rose and Avalon for a moment and passes them. She pauses, does an about face looking at Avalon. She spins the young girl's chair around and removes the scrunchy from her hair. She spins Avalon back around and leaves. Avalon has a completely confused look on her face. She looks to Rose when the woman is done removing. Rose is counting down with her fingers starting from three, two, and one.
The woman returns to say something but Rose cuts her off saying "She's with me Rayne"
Rayne looks to Rose then Avalon, then back to Rose. She leaves and comes back with a small glass of orange juice and a small cup of coffee. She places the orange juice in front of the young girl and the coffee in front of Rose. Rose drinks some of her coffee and sets it back down. Once done, Rose picks up a menu and places it in front of Avalon "order whatever, it's free..."
Avalon and Rayne look to Rose confused; Rayne figures out why. "Rose ya bloody demon..."
Avalon looks to Rayne and asks why she said that.
"It's nothing really, but I have a knack for removing scrunches from people if I see it does nothing for them"
"Like me?"
"Yes like ya little one"
"But why did you call Ms. Rose a bloody demon?"
"She made a deal that for every scrunchy I remove without asking I gotta give a free meal to em..."
"Oh" Avalon looks to Rose, who is pointing right at the menu with her left hand while drinking her coffee with her right.
Avalon shakes her head no "I'm not really hungry Ms. Rayne."
"Alright then..." Rayne says placing her hand on Avalon's head "I'll make ya some butter toast..." The bartender removes her hand from Avalon's head and turns to leave. "It is the least I can do for the girl that watches over my old friend" She leaves.
Rose says nothing. She only drinks her coffee.
"Um Ms. Rose what did she mean by deal?"
"Don't worry about it..."
"Yes ma'am..." Avalon picks up the small orange juice and starts to drink; soon after Rayne returns with some buttered toast. She sets the toast on bar counter.
"Here ya are child, eat quickly cause Rose is usually leaving in five."
Avalon nods picking up her up her burnt brick of bread. She bites into it and paused. Rayne sighs heavily rubbing the back of her head with her left hand. "I had a feeling that a blow torch was a little much..."
Avalon looked up with her burnt meal in her mouth still. Rayne Sighs once more. With disappointment in her voice, she says "You don't have to eat if you do not wish..."
"It's okay" She continues nibbling on the brick until she finishes it. She slides off the chair and bows "Thanks for the Meal."
As she stands up Rayne smiles at the young girl. "Ya don't have to be so polite youngen." Rose finished her coffee and was waiting on Avalon to finish her meal.
Rose goes to leave now "Avalon..." Avalon follows the demon out the door back home.
Still in the bar, Rayne takes another moment to process the whole incident and sighs. Dante, a light drinker, yells to her with an empty mug in air "Oi! Rayne! Are ya done playing mother!? I could use another drink!"
Rayne turns around, fastballing an unopened bottle of Budweiser into Dante's face. Dante falls backward onto the floor as the bottle spins in air unbroken. The bottle lands on his stomach.
Rayne yells to he, "Break my ******** bar, ya repair it!"
