How should I describe this? Enthralling?
It's a very different story. Aliens have been discovered, and a girl, age 15, has been chosen for the mission. It focuses not so much on the action, but more on the messages passed between two childhood friends, as one moves further and further away from earth, taking longer and longer before the messages can be received.
I read the manga, and I watched the anime. Overall, I don't recommend the anime. The manga was much better, in that it covered the same material and more. Since the story is mostly about the messages, especially, it's nice that the manga describes the messages in greater detail.
It's only one volume (10 chapters) long. If you have an hour with nothing to do, you could easily finish it.
( SPOILER ALERT ) The story ends before they get together again, but you sort of know that they will. I, overall, felt satisfied with the ending, but I feel it would have been more satisfying if you had seen the two reunite.
Parental Disclaimer: Not much I can think of. I think the manga swore once, though I hardly recall it. Other than that, no sexual content, as far as I know that was the one and only language problem, if it even existed. Very clean. Don't feel bad at all about opening this one in front of Mommy.
