One of my cats got out on Tuesday 2/4 and has been missing since then.
His name is Alfie. He is a large black medium hair cat, with a white chin and bib, white front toes and white hind socks.
He is xenophobic. Afraid of everything. Probably hiding somewhere, I hope.
Such cats generally don't go far if they get out, but there has been no sign of him. Someone called and said they thought they saw him in Palms Springs, 15 miles away. This seems unlikely... but stranger things have happened. I live in a guest house on a horse property - people drive in and out of here all day. It is remotely possible that Alfie took refuge in a car engine compartment, and got transported to Palm Springs. It seems unlikely, but I read a story last year about a cat that traveled 40 miles like that.
Wherever he is, he is frightened, and hungry and thirsty.
I've done everything I an think of. I posted flyers both in Thousand Palms where I live and in the area of Palms Springs where the unconfirmed sighting was. I notified the microchip company and they sent out an alert, which I hared on FB. I posted on craigslist, and contacted local shelters. I've spent hours walking around calling him, both day and night. I took his best friend, Smokey, who Alfie adores over to the tamarisk row nearby, in case Alfie is hiding there. I hoped that if he was, he would see Smokey and at least meow,
I've gotten nothing.
It may be hard for him to get home. If he was frightened by a dog or a person, and crossed the fence in a panic, he may not know how to return.
My heart is breaking. Alfie is very special to me. I love all my kitties a lot, but Alfie is very special. And he's the worst to lose, because he is a hider, and will not allow any strangers to come near him.
So...
Even though I am not myself a member of organized religion, I do believe strongly in the power of prayer. And in the power of positive energy. So regardless of your religion, please pray each day for his safe return. Pray or whatever other resource you have for positive energy.
