Fragmented Self who wanders through life like a dreamer and wades through the river of dreams as though it were the only truth left in this world
Working With Kids
My job is definitely about adaptation and a willingness/wanting to be around kids all the ******** time. I come home with little stories and damn, I wish I would keep record of all of them. There's a Kindergartner in our program who has been acting up lately with his behavior so we set him up with a sticker chart. He has to earn 10 stickers then he gets a prize. Most kids just earn tickets but he wasn't understanding the ticket concept so we made a special system just for him. He picked the prize and you wouldn't guess what it is. He wanted to earn the right to play a game of monopoly because it is usually an age restricted game. I've been relaxing the rule by supervising and making sure they learn how to play the game. Once they learn, they are typically better about cleaning it up and taking better care of it. This kid comes in from school and tell me every day "I wanna play Monopoly!" I remind him and ask, "Okay, show me your teacher report so I can add another sticker" then he runs off. He's so ******** excited. Lol its so cute.

His issue right now seems to be some communication aspect with the parents and child. From what we've seen so far, they tried a few days to correct the "child is the boss" syndrome in the house, but didn't quite follow through. We also believe there may be some misunderstanding about punishing their child. Usually punishment also comes with praise to reenforce the good, but we have seen some strange reactions in that area. The child had a really good day today and we were all honey with him. When Dad came to get him, he harped on his Kinder son about one unhappy face on his report. Like.... dood. Take it in strides.... he's six years old. He's trying.

That child is pretty close to my heart. I've got the most patience for him in the class and I end up talking to him like he's in preschool, despite how brilliant he is. This kid can read second grade books and knows math really well. There are some first graders that I help with homework that still cannot read like 50% of their words, but the Kinder can read all them just fine. It blows your mind.

Keep in mind I get a consistent 35 kids in my classroom every day. Mondays and Fridays are our low days. Wednesdays are our highest days. We may be an after school program, but we still teach the kids and look after them. We plan projects and material to cover. We discipline the kids and reward them as well. I wouldn't say we grade them but we certainly mold their behavior and have reports that go home when things are no going well that day. My job is easy to me because I get along well with kids. I enjoy creating parameters for them and watching their interests bloom. It's wonderful to be a part of them and act like a silly hooligan to pass time with them. Hehe.
